It definitely has been a strange couple of weeks & months. If you told me at the beginning of this year that a life-threatening virus would impact the world & we would still be experiencing the impact in early August I would be speechless!
Not just that alone but recently my job was directly affected by the impact of the virus which has been a big moment for me & I’ll admit my motivation levels have hit a slump. There is however a lot of light in all of this. Simon & I have begun the fun task of arranging our future engagement & wedding! We’ve gone as far as picking a date & location & all I can say is I hope by next year we will have a big decent party where we can hug each other more snug & shimmy on that pending dancefloor!
I’ve also taken the time from working from home, having my role made redundant & starting my job hunt to focus on my self care & mental health. I’ve been doing online workouts close to three times a week. I dove into a 10 Day Reset complete with clean eating, protein shakes, fizz sticks & online workouts. Loz (Flourish With Loz) has become an integral part of my self care routine & having her support during this strange time in all of our lives has been incredible. Every online workout whether its ABT (Abs, Butts & Thighs) or Zumba is done always with a big smile on her face. It’s a nice feeling during a time where we have to be mindful of social distancing when you feel stronger & have a happy gut so I owe that good feeling thanks to Loz. I also participated in Dry July, a charity where you give up alcohol for a month which in total I raised over $524.45! I'll cheers to that!
Another positive is what this pandemic has done to bring our community together. Simon & I have been trying regularly to support local business, spending a lot more time in our own postcode & visiting local restaurants. I’m sure everyone can agree, but the positives of social distancing is we’re starting to enjoy the slower side of life; something as simple as reading a book, putting something yummy in the slow cooker, playing a boardgame, running a bubble bath, playing Animal Crossing, binging Netflix, blasting our favourite music & dancing around the house have become little escapes on a daily/weekly basis. Cooking has also been my little go to, out of the blue the other week I decided to make Choc Peanut brownies – just cause!
It’s been a really tough time for most industries with some on a complete stand still, Simon however has been really busy & there are a good few people I know out there who have still been working their butts off non-stop to keep the economy going throughout all of this. Remember you are amazing!
Lately there has also been a lot of interesting avenues that musicians & artists have opened up to such as Instagram Live, YouTube concerts & livestreams (pay per view). Lime Cordiale recently released their new album “14 Steps to a Better You” & leading up to the albums release performed 14 shows over 7 days at the Oxford Art Factory (intimate & socially distanced!) Various artists have been podcasting or sharing live videos on Facebook or even by fan request are doing some awesome covers!
Recently Hockey Dad we’re going to do a Drive In Concert in Wollongong, NSW but due to current spikes in both Melbourne & hotspots within NSW this Drive In gig has now been cancelled. Unfortunately this is still the reality for most gigs & events on the social calendar of 2020 & beyond. Some events still feeling hopeful Your & Owls Festival recently advertised tickets to their concert next year, as guessed the presale sold quickly & now the festival itself when GA was released fully Sold Out. Concerts will surely sell quickly due to FOMO but the reality is if we don’t continue to social distance these things will continue to be distant in the future & cancellations will continue to be the current norm.
I hope that as a country the spike reduces & we begin the healing process. Recently I've starting volunteering for Gig Buddies; a not for profit organisation which helps young people expand their social lives through gigs & events. Now that I've been matched with a buddy I would love to go to some kind of gig & event before the end of this year so I’ll continue to remain hopeful.
This week’s song came up last week when I was listening to my personal playlist. I haven’t heard it in ages but the song felt perfect to the current mood. I's an oldie but aN ABSOLUTE goldie check it out below;
Three Little Birds (Don't Worry About A Thing) is a song by Bob Marley & The Wailers. Bob Marley & The Wailers were a Jamaican Reggae band led by Bob Marley that originally formed in 1963. Three Little Birds was a track on their 4th album Exodus but was released officially as a single in 1980; this song is 40 years old & is still a classic jam today! It is one of Bob Marley's most popular songs & has been covered by numerous artists.
Three Little Birds put simply was inspired by Bob Marley & his perception of what he saw around him, he had a favourite kind of bird the Canary that flew near his home thus which grew the inspiration.
With all the madness happening in the world, this song has been the perfect mood booster. Everyone has had their worries & their strifes but in all of this madness we need to be reminded to come together & still be a community (practicing safe social distancing of course!). Check on your friends, check on your neighbours & check on your workmates. Always remember that with strength & love & patience that we will all get through this & we have to support the people around us who are doing it tough right now. Job or not the most important thing right now is that we have our health & we must still try to stop the spread.
Hope this has put a smile on your face & some warmth in your heart! Hope you all have a fantastic week & if you have any songs that have been getting you through isolation. Let me know I'd love to hear them!
Cheers
Amy
