I Can Hardly Speak - Bombay Bicycle Club

Isolation has taught me a few things these past couple of months; working from home is actually something that is quite achievable, dancing around the house in pyjamas is the new normal, its totally ok to have copious amounts of tea, goals can be smashed in a hoodie, fresh air is really good for the soul, sunshine on your face is a great feeling, family is everything, self care is very important (even though I still struggle to go to bed early!), the enjoyment of a good bottle of wine, Cooking comes always from the heart, snuggles on the couch are next level, hearing someones voice is so much better than text messages & love throughout everything going on in this world is all you need <3

In the past two weeks, for what the past few months have been like it's all been that little bit more exciting. Over two weeks ago I turned 30, & it was an incredibly special birthday, even more intimate than I would normally celebrate. There was homemade cocktails, a home cooked meal, cheeky takeout, two live streamed concerts on the big TV, animal crossing, bubbly, cheese platters, XO Patron, slow dancing in the livingroom & on my actual birthday my family & a few friends came over to visit with more cake & more bubbly! That & all the beautiful messages I received from family & friends it's moments like this that make your heart feel full.

On Friday night, the first live streamed concert was the KFC Couch Party featuring my all time favourites Client Liaison. In the first few minutes of the stream, Client Liaison almost broke the internet when at the same time almost 3000 people logged on to watch live. Once the connection was back up again, the party started & across the hour gig they threw in all the greats Wild Life, Survival In The City, World Of Our Love, Beat Supreme, Off White Limousine, Champagne Affection before ending with my latest fave The Real Thing. It was the highlight of my working week & utilising green screens & quick outfit changes they honestly know how to throw a great couch party!

On the Saturday night I tuned into The State Of Music - Ep: 3 presented by Victoria Together which is a weekly stream of online gigs from great muso's. On this particular episode coinciding with my birthday weekend it featured Paul Kelly, Alex Lahey, Archie Roach, Meg Mac, Mojo Juju, Solo (Horrorshow), Tim Freedman, Tim Minchin, Vika & Linda Bull & so much more. Both Simon & I even ended up binging Episode 1 & 2 as well as it was such a lovely treat to have them all in playing in my living room!

Now onto this week's song! Wrap your eyes & ears it below;

After a three year hiatus Bombay Bicycle Club's latest album Everything Else Has Gone Wrong debuted at the beginning of this year. I Can Hardly Speak a track from that album has become the latest isolation banger for me.

Bombay Bicycle Club are an English indie rock band from London, consisting of Jack Steadman (lead vocals, guitar & piano), Jamie MacColl (guitar), Suren de Saram (drums) & Ed Nash (bass). The band became practically famous the moment they finished high school, entering a competition in 2006 to play at V Festival & from that point their fan base grew & grew. Cool fact about their band name; in a taxi on the way to one of their own gigs they were still stuck on a band name, they passed a restaurant in London under the same name & it stuck.

I've been a fan of Bombay Bicycle Club for years with their previous tracks such as Shuffle, Always Like This, How Can You Swallow So Much Sleep, Carry Me, Lights Out;Words Gone & So Long;See You Tomorrow but thanks to isolation I've technically been stuck under a rock & only noticed they had this new album a few weeks ago! & after listening to it this song is still a clear winner for me on the total album.

There's a lighthouse I can hide out Staring out to sea Shine a word through Did it reach you? Or echo back to me

There's just something about Jack Steadman's voice, when he talks quiet & sings quiet you can't even hear a penny drop. It makes the hairs on your arms stick up & you just hang on to every word. The piano bits really make Bombay Bicycle Club have quite a distinct way of sound. There songs are always sweet & provide comfort, like a blanket being wrapped around you on a cold winter's night I look forward to when Social distancing has eased as hopefully that means an album tour should be released & on its way hopefully to Australia!!

Hope you like this track as much as I do & hope that you all have a lovely rest of your week.

Cheers

Amy
