We've reached my favourite week of the year! It's my birthday week! & this year is just that little bit extra special as by the end of this week I will turn the milestone age of 30, Isolation isn't going to bring me down & I'll still try to have as much fun as self distancing will allow me to!
As an early birthday present there was the announcement from the Government the week before last that two adults could now visit a household to provide check ins & boost mental health. It's a step in the right direction & its a small initiative to give hope to those who are living on their own. So make sure if you can, please check in on those family & friends around you as you never know what people are going through till a conversation is started. A simple R U OK? goes a long way!
With the new rule put in place, it rolled around just in time for Mother's Day which was definitely made special to all who could visit their Mum's this year. I would have happily had a glass of champers over a zoom call, but being able to see my Mum physically in person was exactly what I needed after now a total of 5 weeks social distancing. Hope you were able to sneak in a quick cuddle too!
Between work I've been listening to the radio, as well as a couple of classics; Fleetwood Mac, The Cure, Buddy Holly & Paul Kelly to name a few. Also to my excitement literally two days ago Cut Copy released a new track "Love Is All We Share" which is welcome news during isolation & you can listen to it here
I also over the weekend heard the sad news of Little Richard's passing, I got to know Little Richard's music through learning the music history of Buddy Holly. Little Richard if you weren't aware was quite an integral part of Rock n Roll History & theres a good few tracks out there that you wouldn't even know was his! You can listen to my favourite track of his here
This week I've got another upbeat song to share with you all thats been getting me through isolation. It's a song that will definitely get you on your feet & moving!
Baker Boy at first glance is just full of good vibes, everytime I hear his songs I feel empowered, I can hear the excitement in his voice & I can feel the pride he has for his language & land. As he's known to perform original hip-hop songs incorporating both English & Yolŋu Matha.
Danzal Baker is known professionally as Baker Boy. He's an Aboriginal Australian rapper, dancer, artist & actor. I came across Baker Boy in 2017 when his track Marryana came out. Baker Boy was found through Triple J Unearthed & since then he's been rocking the Australian music scene since.
Move has been a very positive track for me especially during isolation as easily there have been days when you wake up & you'd rather stay in bed. Were told if were not out for essentials or working in a office or working environment to stay home & social distance. There's been a lot of change lately & as humans were very social creatures, so to be able to adapt to that logic so quickly is a challenge within itself. People are using their creativity more but honestly since isolation begun, I've been seeking those feel good tracks that will continue to help me dance my way out of this!
Move was released end of March this year & as quoted by Baker Boy himself "is an anthem to keep us moving whilst were all isolating", so how could you not want to jump up & dance around the house to this track!? Thanks Baker Boy, you legend!
Hope you loved the track as much as I do, feel free to share with me what tracks have been getting you through isolation & also have an amazing rest of your week! I know before the end of this week is through I'll be making cocktails most likely & ordering some yummy takeout!
Cheers
Amy
