It was a close call yesterday for me, as like most Triple J Hottest 100 Voters everyone takes their sweet sweet time to eliminate & include their favourites. Voters are given a good number of weeks to vote for 10 songs of their choosing. The cut off time was 3pm yesterday & let's just say after much consideration I literally submitted my vote just in time!
The Hottest 100 is a yearly ritual where Australia votes on their favourite songs for the year then a countdown commences from Midday 25th January starting from #100. You can tune in over the radio or stream the whole thing across the world online (Through this link here) Songs can be picked from a long long list of songs/artists that have featured on Triple J & then across the day they go through all the songs in the countdown till they reach the Number #1 spot (An almost epic near 7 hours later).
Over the years it's changed bit by bit, it's become more competitive/popular between artists, many artists share videos & artwork to advocate why they need you to vote for them. Decisions made determining what artists are included & played throughout the year on Triple J is always a hot topic & as to what songs can be included. As there has been some songs in the vote that weren't even played on the station that were being voted for, which could easily change the statistics & dynamic.
Originally it was also a battle that only Australian bands could enter, but even then we wouldn't have always every year have the greatest choice in songs, music is so internationally shared now it would be silly for it not to be open. Which also means that all genres have an even playing field.
Generally the Triple J Hottest 100, is a great excuse to grab a bunch of friends together, & listen to good music. Pack the snacks, have a boogie as I'm excited to now share with you my TOP 10 SONGS below:
Looking at the above list you may have noticed a few songs that have also featured on Play It Forward >> & now you see why it was hard to choose! I have quite a varied list, as I tried to cover most genres that I love. Each of the songs above that I've picked each hold a special place in my heart, they've brought me up/motivated me/ shaken my booty & gave me the ultimate adrenaline/dopamine imaginable!
I've decided this week to share one of the special artists from my TOP 10 VOTES, get ready to rock to this beautiful cover of an ultimate classic:
Dear Seattle originates from the Northern Beaches in Sydney, Australia & are an Indie Alternative Band consisting of Brae Fisher, Jeremy Baker, Lachlan Simpson & Josh McKay.
Their latest & debut album Don't Let Go was released last year & since their debut have also toured Australian Music Festivals such as Groovin The Moo, Unify Gathering, Party In The Paddock & Festival of the Sun.
I've heard some of their songs, but this cover last year really got to me. They've covered Special Two by Missy Higgins who has actually been an "Aussie Darling" & a integral contender in the Australian Music industry for more than the past decade.
I hope you like the song as much as I do, Dear Seattle have seriously elevated this song to more levels than imaginable & its just the perfect way to convey all the emotion within the lyrics of this song as well.
I hope you all have a wonderful rest of your week & don't forget this Saturday to tune in & countdown the Triple J Hottest 100 songs to listen in to what Australia voted for!
Cheers
Amy
