Alchemy - Willaris. K

Today isn't just any ol' regular Tuesday! Today is the start & continuance of Sydney's great nightlife. It's been 5 long years since The Australian Government decided to send parts of the Sydney CBD & Oxford Street into lockout lockdown, with more clubs in the area having to shut earlier than 3am, liquor stores to shut at 10pm & keep patrons from entering their premises after 1:30am.

Over the years, nearly 200 places suffered across the CBD & couldn't handle the lack of business &/or afford licences to run business in the CBD. With the further implementation of the light rail system which during it's construction across just over two years obscured most attention to these thriving places & major shopping outlets causing a drought that stretched across the whole of Sydney (not just the areas they placed in lockdown). The people of Sydney threw it back to the Government quite a number of times, with protests & day parties as money in crucial projects such as live music, arts, entertainment, tourism every aspect was starting to feel the pinch of this original decision. One of the main hubs was Sydney's King Cross which is almost unrecognisable thanks to the fat cats & gym junkies.

When the lock out laws first rolled out I was turning 24 & nights out were then & still a part of how I would relax throughout the working week. I may no longer have way too many nights out where I come home with stamps along my arm but I still enjoy a night out with friends & having the choice to go wherever I please. But most importantly we need to look to the future of the youth who will now get to experience the feeling of having a choice of where to go & a choice to extend their party. So now that the lockout laws have been dropped, we need to feel positive about re-injecting the nightlife & it's time to start dreaming big where we see Sydney's nightlife going! But now we look forward to Sydney's future & today we can say its going to be bright!

Another amazing thing to share! Is the absolutely amazing response from Australian & International Artists in regards to the Australian Bushfire Crisis, at Bong Bong Racecourse next Saturday 25th there will be FireAid hosted by Julia Zemiro & mid-feb we will have Fire Fight Australia at ANZ Stadium hosted by Celeste Barber (who to date collectively has raised near 50 million for the Australian Fire Affected Community!!) There are many concerts popping up everywhere & I can't name them all but it just warms my heart knowing that everyone is supporting each other through this tough time.

Also before we go into this week's song, have you done your voting for the Triple J Hottest 100? I will share with you all next week my Top 10 votes! Now let's get into this week's song!

I'm totally surprised how long it has taken me to share this track & this artist with you all. Willaris. K has been a favourite of mine since I heard this track in 2018. Alchemy is everything you want in a dance track. It's dark in all the right places, gives you just the right amount of time to get caught in the moment, before it shifts to a whole other ball game.

Willaris. K is Jack McAllister, a producer from Northern NSW. Growing up in Cobaki, a suburb in Tweed Heads. His break-out single was Alchemy & its follow-up Dour Nights. McAllister in his previous job collected recordings on his phone as he walked through the bushland across the metal trays that protect the cables, & fed them into the sophisticated techno that's seen him earn fans in Pete Tong, sell-out shows in Australia & play at festivals including Coachella, Splendour in the Grass, Lollapalooza & Forbidden Fruit.

Hope you like Alchemy as much as I do, it was his first released track & it's hand down my most favourite track from Willaris. K. I also hope you all have a great week & remember to KEEP SYDNEY OPEN, grab your friends & enjoy a night out & lets put energy back into the Sydney streets (if you haven't been doing so already!!)

Cheers

Amy
