I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles) - The Proclaimers

Music is a main motivator for me, it's gets me up in the morning, gets me ready before I go out on a night out, even when I was studying at certain times music gave me the boost I needed to get back into finishing an assignment/essay. Music can pick you up from any mood that you are in, calm you, pump you up, energise you & bring back warm & wonderful memories. I tend to listen to music on my way to & from work, & sometimes when I get home & don't feel like watching TV I play music whilst I cook & chill out.

Music especially was a main motivator for me over the past weekend, as I decided without any training whatsoever to do the Seven Bridges Walk; a charity walk that is organised by The Cancer Council. The route totals at 28Km basically you pick a village starting point & from there in clockwise direction you walk across all the bridges outlined on the map till you find yourself back to where you started.

With our group of friends from all parts of Sydney, we decided meeting at Hunters Hill was a good start & little did we realise that we did the hardest amount of the track first & got it out of the way (close to 6km before the next stopping area at Lane Cove. Then with a further 7km till our next bridge!) We started our journey at 8:45am & didn't reach Hunters Hill again till 4:20pm. The bridges we covered in total were Fig Tree Bridge, Sydney Harbour Bridge, Pyrmont Bridge, ANZAC Bridge, Iron Cove Bridge, Gladesville Bridge & lastly Tarban Creek Bridge before we found ourselves back at Hunters Hill.

There were moments across the course where each of us got tired, needed to stretch & those rest areas where well placed across the course. Everyone was well covered, we made sure to keep hydrated & I continuously put sunscreen on as well. Victor brought a wireless speaker & attached it onto his backpack, so the whole way we had a pumping playlist to keep us going. Lots of classic RnB bangers with Nelly, R Kelly, Ja Rule, Technotronic, Britney Spears, Arianna Grande & a few rock classics like "Eye of the Tiger" & Queen's "We Are The Champions" was played as we crossed the finish line.

As someone who maybe goes for a run every couple of months or so, I definitely don't think I realised what I was getting myself into. But I'll admit it was a beautiful walk with many beautiful sights. I feel very proud of myself & it will continuously amaze me what the human body can achieve. My legs are definitely feeling the pinch, but so far with all my stretching & a luxurious bubble bath I've managed to come out of this unburnt & with not too much muscle pain. When I looked at my FitBit on the way home my total steps were already past 50 000, my PB overall. Here's just a few of the amazing sights we saw on the walk below:

After all this talk of walking this leads me into this week's song & it's an absolute Scottish classic!

I've heard people say that the Scottish are fun at parties, sure we love a drink, we love the banter & if theres a good song on the dancefloor we love a dance! Coincidently over the weekend I was at a family friends 30th & this was one of the last songs played for the night & given that the Seven Bridges Walk was a bloody long walk this song felt so appropriate!

I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles) is a classic Scottish romantic ballad from Scottish brothers The Proclaimers; Charlie & Craig Reid. The song was released in 1988 as their lead single for their second studio album Sunshine On Leith. It's sounds romantic lyric wise, but actually the song was mostly written by Craig who was actually waiting around before heading to a Hibs game. The song in total literally took 45minutes to write & little did they realise since then how successful this song would become!

Sung between the two brothers most people when they listen to this song choose a side. You either sing the main part or look after all the echoes across the song. But it's a total foot stamper & everyone normally just shouts all the parts as best as they can!

Hope you like the flashback this week as much as I do *jigs*

Have a wonderful rest of your week!

Cheers

Amy
