Ended up going to the Moet & Chandon Spring Carnival Races at Randwick Racecourse over the weekend as an early celebration for my friends birthday. We all had a go at putting on a few bets & across the day few came through with a win & the rest came through with a couple of good places. I guess the best thing about going to the races is you make a full day out of it; & usually when I go to the races it always goes down well with some cheese, crackers & nibbles! It also works out if you get down to the races at a decent time to score a table & chairs (which we eventually did thanks to a little rain scaring off a bunch of people!) & then the weather held off from raining heavily for the rest of the day which made the day even more pleasant.
I think also one of the best things about going to the races is its a good excuse to get a bunch of people together, drink a little bit of champers in the sun & it's also a good excuse to get a little bit dolled up!
Well to my luck & my surprise the Moet & Chandon Day at Spring Carnival wasn't just about the bubbly, the horses & the bets. There was also a special act performing at the end of the Race Day & it was Client Liaison! (Who you may recognise from a previous blog post from a few weeks ago!) As you may already know Client Liaison have been on my wish list for quite a while now, they have a gig at the Enmore Theatre at the end of this month that is currently selling fast & soon to sell out! & as much as I would really like to see them unfortunately I still won't be able to attend due to other plans booked the same night!
So for me especially it was an absolute bonus knowing that part of my ticket would give me a chance to see them. Everyone else at the Races seemed keen & after the last race everyone flocked to the Horse Viewing Ground where Client Liaison had just started rolling into the start of a near hour set.
& they were fantastic! They played a few favourites such as "World of Our Love", "Off White Limousine", "Wild Life" & they also surprised the audience with their latest & still to release single "Champagne Affection" before ending the set with "The Real Thing" which caused the audience to go crazy! Seeing them live was so much fun, as there was so much energy & so much going on, they were all in powers suits & skivvies. Monti was jamming on stage & pulling all kinds of moves ie. high kicks, squats & poses. They also had an in house groove guy who across all the songs played either the Sax or Flute to compliment each song. They also sound just as good live as they do recorded which is always a nice bonus & the punters below kept shouting out for more. The whole band were all shimmie-ing constantly & jumping around the stage & I just didn't want it to end. But I'm so glad I can say that I've finally seen them! & here's the best kept secret I've been able to score a little sneak peek of their latest single Champagne Affection which you can glimpse at below:
Champagne Affection has hints of flute & Summer vibes! What I grasped from the lyrics is its all about the luxuries of life & tying it in to the beautiful traits of a woman. Perfect jam for summer, as it boasts poolside attention, champagne, warmer weather & a little bit of romance! Speaking of the beautiful traits of a woman, especially one that's empowering, fun & sassy this brings me into this week's song!
Juice was released in May earlier this year by Melissa Vivienne Jefferson whose stage name is Lizzo. Lizzo is an American singer, rapper & songwriter who is currently residing in Minneapolis, USA. I'm only recently jumping on the bandwagon now, but Lizzo has been recording music for quite a number of years. & she's quite a lot of fun on stage as I've seen from her Glastonbury video earlier this year!
Lizzo has been quite the busy bee as her first album "Lizzobangers" was released in 2013 with her second album soon following only two years later in 2015 called "Big Grrrl Small World". From sources across the internet it was in 2014 that she was titled by TIME magazine as one of the music artists to watch. & I'm surprised I've only come across her music since the beginning of this year.
I'm making a random guess here, but for fans who didn't know Lizzo in 2013 & have only now decided to come along for the ride. It was most likely the single Juice or Tempo that got them & me in the groove. Juice was one of the first few singles to come from her third studio album "Cuz I Love You" released earlier this year. & since I've heard it, its become part of my dance playlist.
I then came across this remix done by Ed Banger crewman Breakbot & I love the song even more now! I feel the remix adds to Juice a whole lot more funk & disco & it just amps it up that little bit extra. As I said I still love the original but I love what this remix has done for this song! I'm keen to see what other Lizzo songs I discover now!
Hope that you like this week's song as much as I do, & I hope that you have an amazing week!
Cheers
Amy
