Last Friday night mum & I saw Melinda Schneider as a "A Farewell to Doris" at the Sydney Opera House. Melinda Schneider as you may or may not know (I know I didn't but I learn so much from running this blog) is that she is an Australian Country Music singer/songwriter & 6 time Golden Guitar winner.
She's been listening to Doris Day with her family since she was a little girl & the tribute concert for Doris Day was the 4th time in the past 8 years that Melinda has sung specifically Doris Day tracks. It made this most recent concert of hers a lot more meaningful as Doris Day unfortunately passed away a few months ago at the wonderful age of 97.
Between the odd few young people dappled through the crowd there was a sea of grey nomads all happily & cheerfully singing along, the room swelled & it had such a good feeling about it as you could tell that everyone was in that big ol room to celebrate her, & the amazing 97 years that she was on this Earth. Crazy to believe that she featured in 39 feature films between 1948 & 1968. One of the few favourites songs of mine was "Secret Love", "Pillow Talk" & "Everybody Loves a Lover". There was a good amount of songs played across the near 2 hour concert & with a few songs there wasn't a dry eye in the house, Melinda nailed the mannerism, dance moves & accent that Doris Day would sing with & the show was made more fitting with the "Young at Heart Orchestra" for that big band sound & her side man Rohan Brown playing all the key male parts. It was such a lovely experience to share with my mum, Doris Day meant a lot to us & we had a good sing a long as well!
Please see a picture below that I was able to source from Melinda Schneider's Facebook page, as unfortunately within the venue as concert goers we weren't able to take pictures during the show.

The next concert coming up for me now is James Morrison at the Enmore Theatre next Friday 20th September. Which now leads us into this week's song!
Feels Like The First Time is the latest single from James Morrison's latest album "You're Stronger Than You Know" which came out earlier this year in March. What's so great about James Morrison is that his songs are plucked from a different era. It's croony, sweet & seductive & you gotta love when there's a live acoustic!
Reading off James Morrison's direct website which you can view here from the beginning he's rarely dreamed that he would once make it big, busking in pubs as a 16 year old in the UK. With that in mind his humility really shines through as over the years his five Top 10 singles all had ranked among the biggest of their era, which includes the breakthrough song we all know & love which is "You Give Me Something".
His latest album "You're Stronger Than You Know" which is his FIFTH studio album will be the main feature of the show & for the past few weeks I've been making more time to listen to his album, so far the tracks I'm really digging from it are "My Love Goes On", " I Still Need You" & "Until The Stars Go Out". Since I'm kind of late to the James Morrison bandwagon I am more intrigued about next week's show & look forward to seeing what other surprise songs might pop up!
Hope that you all have a lovely week ahead & remember if there are any artists or bands that you recommend please let me know on my main home page!
Cheers
Amy
