The Real Thing - Client Liaison

It's time to shake off this cold weather & jump into something warmer! I'm amazed that its Spring & that September has rolled around as fast as it has! I've started seeing those little cherry blossom trees opening up all the way throughout our street, flowers in the trees are popping with colour & the odd day warmer than the blustery cool winds & rain we've had recently. It's like you can feel it in your bones that with warmer weather always follows greater & brighter moments.

So with brightness ahead I'll get straight to the point as it's all about music baby! I get such a little buzz when I find a song that finds me, it's like no matter how busy you are in those few moments you're caught up in the good feeling & its amazingly infectious. You get a rush that runs through to your toes, goosebumps on your arms & most occasions I'm tempted mid-song to dance on the train platform or as I walk down the street.

In the past year of busy schedules I've tried between everything to still go to quite a number of live gigs seeing the likes of Gang of Youths, Dappled Cities, Julia Jacklin, Tube & Berger, Olympia & Touch Sensitive. I also went to Transmission Festival for a fun trance night filled with Above & Beyond, Marcus Santoro, Ilan Bluestone, Vini Vici, MaRLo, Simon Patterson, AVAO & Purple Haze to name a few & my most RECENT gig was actually seeing Hugh Jackman nearly a month ago in a stadium filled spectacular show with surprise guest Keala Settle ("This Is Me" - The Greatest Showman) who admitted on the tour that her first album would be coming out hopefully before the end of this year! **artist to watch**

Then lined up for me in the next couple of weeks I'll be seeing Melinda Schneider at the Opera House dedicating "A Farewell to Doris" coincidentally now a tribute show as Doris Day unfortunately passed away earlier in the year at age 97. I'm a big fan of musicals as both my Granny & my Mum are both big big musical fans as well & in the past year I've also been able to see a mix of musicals & opera such as "Carmen", "The Book of Mormon", "Anna Bolena" & "Muriel's Wedding" & in October I'll be seeing the Russian Ballet's "Swan Lake" so I'm very much looking forward to singing along to many Doris Day classics. The week after I'm seeing James Morrison at the Enmore Theatre with my Mum, end of September I'll be seeing the boys from the Sunshine Coast The Chats at a SOLD OUT Factory Theatre show then early October I'm heading down to Wollongong for Yours & Owls Festival to see the likes of Amy Shark, Hatchie, Ruel, Baker Boy, Sneaky Sound System, Vera Blue, Kira Puru, Golden Features & Bugs just to name a few. There's totally a few artists here that have been on my wish list for quite some time.

One band I've definately been keeping my close eye on for a while is Client Liaison, I don't know what it is about them but they are truly unique & transport me back to a time in Australia that I was actually too little to fully comprehend. A time of true politics, mateship, shoulder pads, sculling politicians, retro hairdos, slapping bass, wind surfing & funky funky synth. Which now leads me into this week's song!

Client Liaison began its humble beginnings in 2009 at Geelong Grammar, both students Monte Morgan & Harvey Miller were highly influenced by the late 80s & early 90s synth house music style; with other band members Tom Tilley & Geordie Miller under record labels Dot Dash Recordings & Parlophone. Client Liaison are known for their strong fashion presence, powder blue/yellow/pink/orange power suits & dangling jewellery both guys had perfected Australiana at what I would agree to be one of its peak moments in history.

What always gets me is those funky 90's sound effects & bass bits, Client Liaison always throw in a tall order of Australian references such as retired airline Ansett, Foster's Beer, Sizzler, Canberra politics & our corporate world in the late 80's/early 90's giving listeners a free ticket back in time to feel like they are actually there. Overall I think that's where Australians sit freely, we're open to take the piss out of ourselves & it's good that lyrics so funky can be taken with great humour. What makes it even more relevant with such focus on the Australian Corporate world is Monte Morgan is the son of executive chairman of "Roy Morgan Research" & their studio is an office space in his dad's company building.

Classic Aussie legends such as Tina Arena & John Farnham have been strong influences on Client Liaison, with Tina Arena actually appearing on one of their tracks from their previous Album Diplomatic Immunity "A Foreign Affair". I also find there lyrics to always be so upbeat & motivational, full of fun & shimmy. I love all of their tracks but the songs that are my absolute fave are "World of Our Love", "Off White Limousine" & "Wild Life".

Client Liaison are also touring in mid October in you're keen to check them out! (You can buy tickets -> here)

The Real Thing which is the latest track from Client Liaison only dropped within the past week & has quickly become one of my motivational anthems. It's catchy, synthy & has all the 90's sound effects through out to love. The lyrics to this track are also quite empowering;

"Take a Look in the mirror,

Who do you see, is it a superstar?

Unlock the gift you've been given

You'll find it within go out & make your mark"

"Don't stop keep moving get on your feet

You gotta know that you're the real thing

Just find your rhythm & dance to the beat

You gotta know that you're the real thing"

It's a total anthem & its all we need to start this Spring off with a bang! I hope you enjoy it & I'll leave you also with my current favourite quote it's "You will make time for the things you love". In the past year its really the simple things like reading a lot more, going for walks in your lunch break, taking up previous hobbies you've stopped (I've only just taken up knitting again, I'm super slow but its a hobby I very much enjoyed) so go on tigers get out there & show Spring what you got!

Until next week! & remember if you know any artist or song I should be getting into, don't forget you can email me on my opening page! Have a great week!

Cheers

Amy
