I'm finding it a bit hard to believe, but looking at my calendar this week signifies just over a month that Simon & I have been back from our Europe trip. As I'm getting back into the groove of things, I honestly don't think I've noticed the days flying AS I've literally still been living it up! Between job hunting I've been catching up with friends, going out for drinks, going for swims, therapeutically consolidating my belongings as well as committing myself to thrifty spending habits in the process! I've also been eating all the asian cuisine to suffice the lack of in the past few months & also the week before last went away on a little midweek break!! The sun also has amazingly decided to stay out for majority of the time we've been back (I'm actually still rocking a sandal tan!) so we've been very lucky to have all this extra time outside in the fresh air. Sounds like Summer has still decided to stick around! Even if I guess it's just for a little while longer!
Music wise not very much has been going on, I've been listening to a lot of songs that I collected just before I went on holiday. But currently I'm loving Porter Robinson's side project "Virtual Self", the few tracks I've heard such as "Ghost Voices", "Particle Arts" & "Eon Break" are a strong mix of a variety of dance genres. Hints of dark techno & even slight hairstyle, which given his main artist style is a little on the heavier/darker dance side.
Courtney Barnett I've also recently heard has sneaked out a new track called "Need a Little Time" which is the first single from her second album "Tell Me How You Really Feel" this track was released round the same time as I returned from Europe. But now also in the past week has announced the second album release date will be the 18th May (day after my birthday!)
Splendour in the Grass tickets also were on sale last week, & like every year they were sold out within minutes. I saw the line up & the artists looked pretty good; lots of artists who have been to Splendour numerous times such as The Wombats, Vampire Weekend, PNAU, Franz Ferdinand, Chvrches, The Jungle Giants & MGMT to name a few. With also quite a number of upcoming artists such as Alex The Astronaut, WAAX, POOLCLVB, Kendrick Lamar, Middle Kids, The Babe Rainbow & Bully to name a few. I guess the only thing that really gets to me about the festivals in Australia is just how pricey the tickets are. Splendour in the Grass is currently sitting at over $500 for a 3 day camping event which if you break it down is over $399 just for the ticket & $100 for the camping. But when you do eventually have the ticket what doesn't get added to the ticket total is the price to commute there, the supplies you will take with you & then when you are there the cost of food/alcohol whilst at the festival. As I've recently come back from a holiday, & kept a pretty good budget there are heaps of great festivals across the seas that don't have such a hefty price tag & have equally a great amount of artists as well. I don't think Australians personally have to foot just a hefty bill just because a number of artists are travelling from overseas.
Anywho on a more positive note, this week's track is a song I've been getting obsessed with the past couple of weeks. It all started a few weeks ago when I went to go see Bruno Mars with mum, this artist has quite a number of tracks but this track has always stuck out so far. Wrap yours eyes & ears around it below:
Dua Lipa is an English singer, songwriter & model. She started her music career at the age of 14 as a Youtube star who would sing covers of other famous artists. Warner Music signed her as an artist in 2015 at the age of 20 & since then for the past two years she's been working on her tracks. It was mid way through 2017 that she released her debut self-titled album "Dua Lipa" & from that album tracks such as "IDGAF" & "Be The One" & "New Rules" that hit high on the music charts. It was then from her debut album that at the beginning of 2018, Lipa won two Brit Awards for British Female Solo Artist & British Breakthrough Act.
There's just something so badass & catchy about "New Rules" the track is fun & between the lyrics holds a lot of truth regarding some modern day relationships. At the age of almost 23, she already has the audience in the palm of her hands. I'll be excited if in the future a second album is to come out.
Hope you like the track as much as I do & have a fantastic week ahead!
