Mistakes feat. Tkay Maidza - Basenji

Another week closer to Christmas & I'll have to say I will only be ok with Christmas Carols when we are actually in the month of December. It's amazing how early corporations & companies can get away with getting into the spirit of Christmas sometimes even as early as late September! When they try to push the Christmas spirit out earlier in the year I'll admit it just gives off a slightly tacky vibe. But aside from some people seeing it as a money grab, Christmas is almost in the air & soon enough we will have to get excited about it! I have always had fond memories since I was young about getting excited for Santa's visit & every year my family would sing "Jingle Bells" before I headed to bed. I'm a fan of a few of the classic Christmas carols & also a few of the rock n roll ones too! I still can't believe it's that time of the year, but I will put up the decorations & getting spinning those Christmas classics & maybe treat myself to eggnog or two!

What I am definately quite excited about though for is within the month I'll be at the Sidney Myer Music Bowl in Melbourne listening to Paul Kelly sing. Just this past weekend Paul Kelly graced the Sydney Opera House forecourt steps & to many raving reviews. Swelling voices & swaying crowds as he captured the audience for two magical nights. From pictures it looked truly magical that even one of our National TV stations also recorded one of the shows. Which meant anyone who couldn't go, got the chance to see him perform!

So many exciting things are finally happening, my best friend gets to marry the man of her dreams this weekend. Flights for Scotland for Simon & I are sorted & rail passes have been purchased as well (we celebrated with a margarita the size of my face!)

Last weekend we rolled back to the days of the Eastern & had a night out for Meghan's hens listening to RnB & old school at a club on Oxford St called Della Hyde. It was an absolute tonne of fun, shimmie-ing down & singing the lyrics loudly, there was cocktails & games. Music like that will always remain awesome as whats amusing is everyone just brings out their inner gangsta.

I've got a slightly dancey track that was only released early last week, featuring vocals from one of my favourite artists also - this song is definately going to be a BANGER! Wrap your ears around it below:

Basenji is an electronic musician & DJ from Sydney, Australia. His humble beginnings gained popularity through the Triple J Unearthed competition in 2013. His first track "Dawn" was uploaded onto Triple J Unearthed & was also the first track I was exposed to in 2013. You can check it out here if you are interested in his earlier works -> here

Signed underneath the Future Classic label with other artists such as Touch Sensitive, Flume, WAFIA, Flight Facilities, Hayden James, Ta-Ku & Wave Racer to name a few he has released since then several singles & one EP. "Mistakes" being his latest single features vocals from no one other than Tkay Maidza.

Mistakes is definately a more poppy direction for Basenji, but it works so well. The horns throughout the track are definately my favourite part & they just sound so majestic & empowering especially with Tkay's vocals throughout. Basenji is well known for horns, woodblocks, dog barks - just fun & vibrant sounds. So to have a track so smooth & polished, Basenji is heading towards a clearer sound.

Tkay Maidza especially has been soaring in the music scene as within only a few years herself she has done quite well with her self titled album "TKAY". Her voice is just so versatile, she can rap, she can sing & basically both at the same time!

Listen for yourself & hope that you like it as much as I do! Have a great week!

Cheers

Amy
