You know when you get those songs that grasp & hold you into a little cocoon? You then realise in this great big ol' world, that you are a tiny amazing part of it. Sometimes you can be in a mood for these kind of songs & sometimes that's just what music can do to you. I love it when a song starts & goosebumps appear on your arms & legs & all you want to do is rock out in your seat or on the spot dance where you're standing; on the bus, on the train, down the street, in your office, in the shops, in the park, anywhere.

This week I thought it would be appropriate & in conjunction with head space week to tie in how music specifically makes me feel & the importance of youth & youth mental health. If you want to know more about what headspace is doing for youth, check out their website -> here

I've been seeing these headspace green posters pop up throughout the past few days & the initiative behind this is exceptional, so I thought I would join in & spread the word.

"When I'm not in a good headspace... listening to music makes me feel better"

Music is like a little keepsake that you hide in your room or undies drawer. It's a possession that you yourself know of its importance & everyone handles possessions differently. It could be a CD you had since you were little, a mix tape a friend made you, it could be a song that reminds you of a family member, a time or a place or even a song that you could constantly play on repeat (& never hate!) but you yourself know its value. Mental Health is still a stigma when it comes to normal conversations & I open heartedly will state I'm no expert on this topic at all. But I will highlight that when I'm not in a good headspace listening to music for me is definately a great escape & that for me I understand its value to me. Understandably every one has their personal battles, but battles aren't meant to be fought alone. I'm not telling you all what to do, but I suggest everyone takes at least a few minutes out of their day to ask anyone how they are & go beyond just the average "how are you?" question.

It's sometimes quite easy to be swept up in things, life will always get in the way, but always prioritize within yourself what is important to you & your health. There are weeks where I want to do everything & other weeks where I'd rather have a big sleep in & stay in bed. There are other occasions where I reach this time of the week & I don't know what to share, or what to post, but the best way forward that I have learnt is to just truck on & the inspiration will sometimes find you eventually!

In the past week I've spent most of my time celebrating life with the ones I love the most. My best friend from high school got engaged, for a good couple of hours I also sun baked in the park with a picnic lunch & I also spent time with my parents as they celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary. As I make my way towards the end of the year, it's becoming clear that after a hectic schedule the rest of this year is all about recuperating & revival. I've been just resting & catching up on TV/movies I've fallen behind with. I've not really been listening to new music technically, but my dad has lent me his Janis Joplin CD & I've also been listening to Pez's album "Don't Look Down" & also in the past week I've gone through my total playlist & rearranged it better (still a work in progress)

This week's track is another little keepsake, another song that I hope will tug at your heartstrings like it has with mine. As every time I hear a Gang of Youths song it just does that to me, wrap your ears & eyes around it below:

Gang of Youths is a band that originated in Sydney & this track is from their latest album “Go Farther in Lightness” which came out in August this year.

remember take some time to talk to people & ask deeper questions. What do you do to get yourself in a better headspace? What could you encourage others to do to get into a better headspace? Music just has a great influence on mood, so if you ever feel like a pick me up I always like to start with a favourite song &/ or artist & go from there. Blast it as loudly or play it as softly as you like!

Hope that you all have a fantastic week!

Cheers

Amy
