Mourning Sound - Grizzly Bear

At the moment it seems to be more of a waiting game regarding uni results, keeping it in the background for now it's just nice to be back to a leisurely routine. (results will hopefully be confirmed beginning of next week! woo!)

Now that we are finally in Spring the weather is slowly starting to warm up & were all finally able to defrost. Even though yes i'll admit its been a mild Winter, its always a nice surprise when the weather changes & the days seem longer/lighter. There's already been one or two mornings & no cardigan/scarf were necessary; truly does put a Spring in peoples step! Also as the weather gets warmer my aim is to get back into a healthier mindset; more sleep, walking more & eating better & to more importantly spend more time actually outside in the fresh air!

Even more amazing news but it's also almost soon to be a very momentous occasion for Play it Forward >> as this super fun amazing & musical blog turns two next week! TWO! Can't believe it will be this creations 2ND birthday next week! What fun it's been!

Last week by impulse Simon & I went to "Fists Full of Rock!" a rocking collective at Enmore Theatre. After the Hoodoo Gurus & You Am I toured regionally they decided to hit the major cities of Sydney, Melbourne & Brisbane. The lineup was bustling with Adalita (former lead guitarist/singer of Magic Dirt) & Jebediah who was joining You Am I & Hoodoo Gurus. As you can see from the total bill it is just GOOD OL AUSSIE ROCK.

We were buzzing with excitement before the show, having drinks & nachos at the Duke of Edinburgh Hotel in Enmore. The show kicked off at 7pm, but unfortunately with the hustle & bustle we missed Adalita.

Jebediah were first to our ears & after a quick line up for a whiskey dry we made our way into the crowd & like I always do, I try to remember the last artist that I had seen in that theatre. The last show I would have seen at the Enmore was Matt Corby end of July last year after he postponed his tour in May due to losing his voice. Enmore is always a favourite of mine, as wherever you stand you can see the stage with the slight incline in the floor all the way to the back. What a great start to the gig for us, Jebediah are an Australian alternative rock band that formed in 1994 in Perth, Western Australia. After all these years they were a band still full of energy & enthusiasm. Shouting "Ready for a FIST full of ROCK?". It was from this beginning point that for the rest of the night I didn't stop headbanging. My favourite track of theirs was "Harpoon".

Next up on the bill was You Am I with their firecracker of a lead guitarist Tim Rogers. Who with his bottle of red, shimmery gold jacket & booted platforms was ready to knock our socks off & he totally did a few times as he high kicked his way through some of the songs. Forming in 1989, You Am I couldn't truly be anymore rock & roll & are also well known to be a band that's always smartly dressed. Story of the night is awarded to Tim Rogers, as before You Am I played their track "Mr Milk" he jokingly told the crowd about a time when he took drugs, but knowing drugs weren't good for you eventually turned his vice to dairy. He unfortunately found out that he was intolerant to dairy so he went back to taking drugs shouting "This song is about lactose intolerance!!" before the band dived into playing. They also played a number of tracks such as "Berlins Chair", "Get Up" & "Cathy's Clown" & with all their tracks they seemed to be on stage for a good length of time.

You Am I were very grateful to be still doing what they loved & took the time to thank their fans as well as their oldest friends & headliner Hoodoo Gurus. Hoodoo Gurus summed up the night to a whole new level. Hoodoo Gurus you could tell were the crowd favourite & what was also very lovely/ fascinating about the gig was there was barely a mobile phone held out of the crowd all night & more people were dancing along! There was some crowd favourites "Come Anytime", "1000 Miles Away", "Bittersweet" & "What's My Scene". Dave Faulkner is a very enigmatic lead, who for most of the set jumped around the stage & belted out to his hearts content.

Overall it was a solid good dose of live music, & we walked out of that theatre pumped. All the bands put on a great show & it was great to even listen to songs I've never even heard of. Will definately be digging around for their past material!

This week's track is the latest single from American rock band Grizzly Bear; wrap your ears & eyes around it below:

Grizzly Bear is an American Rock Band from Brooklyn, New York. Grizzly Bear consists of Edward Droste (vocals, guitar, keyboards, omnichord), Daniel Rossen (vocals, guitar, banjo, keyboards), Chris Taylor (bass, backing vocals, various instruments, producer) & Christopher Bear (drums, backing vocals). I've been quite the fan of Grizzly Bear since 2009 so I'm excited to hear they have a new album called "Painted Ruins" out (which was released over two weeks ago) Their last album "Shields" was released in 2012.

Hope you love their latest track "Mourning Sound" as much as I do! Have a fantastic week!

Cheers

Amy
