Woman's World - OKENYO

Well that was such a lovely break with nature for a few days, I headed off to Blackheath with Simon. I took the Friday off & had a lovely long weekend returning Sunday night & it was just a nice excuse for the two of us to getaway.

What is always great about little trips away is it always puts things into perspective, a chance to recharge your batteries & get away from the hustle & bustle. Chaos is great sometimes when you can get a great amount of energy to ride through & from it, but when it turns other aspects of your life into chaos as well everything after a while can be a bit tiring. With everything going on lately with uni & such it was just lovely to embrace the calm & fresh air.

We caught the train out to Blackheath & it was a wee bit chillier than the city, over the long weekend we divulged in all the little enjoyable things in life; tea & scones, walking trails, playing cards, cheese & crackers, clear night skies & jammy donuts. Coming back to work on Monday after such a restful weekend has definately boosted my energy levels & I feel more so like myself. Even as a little challenge that I have set myself is I'm trying to start a new habit, where I don't spend too much time on my phone & being more aware. Only if I'm listening to music on my phone on the bus the only thing I am allowed to do now is skip songs, so my phone has basically turned back into an Ipod. (Actually heard a couple of weeks ago that Apple have decided to discontinue their Ipod Nano & Shuffle models so that's an end to an era as well)

Given all this sense of calm & relaxation I have been reminded of how empowered I am in controlling my happiness & how I must continue with strength & good spirits. Never underestimate the power of self & that is why this week's track is tied to self empowerment & how with a right mindset nothing in life can alter your vision. Wrap your eyes & ears around this ultimate anthem below:

OKENYO is an enigmatic vocalist based in Sydney. Emerging from the pack as one of this country's most exciting artists as she pushes the boundaries of neo-soul music. Okenyo is making her mark & her latest track "Woman's World" comes with an empowering message.

Music video directed by Josh Harris "Woman's World" is the latest single from OKENYO, her last single was "10 Feet Tall" which was released last year. OKENYO has also been across numerous music projects such as being a key vocalist from Urthboy's "Second Heartbeat" feat. Sampa The Great, joining Urthboy on his national tour last year & as well she may be known to some littler Australians as Zindzi from Playschool. OKENYO is also a member of the Elefant Traks family one of my favourite music labels for Australian Hip Hop.

I've listened to this track quite a number of times & every time I listen to it I feel totally bad ass & that nothing can stand in my way. OKENYO's style is very uplifting & empowering, with a main message for the listener to be strong & know that you can always be more.

Give it a listen yourself, hope it empowers you to do something great! Have a great week!

Cheers

Amy
