Isn't it funny how after all the many months of craziness from uni, with its constant stream of note taking, weekly activities & cramming your brain which looking back many weeks ago was a complete flurry of slightly organised chaos. How now as if by a click of the fingers all that stuff that kept occupancy in your brain has just stopped suddenly & settled like dust on the floor. Hard to believe that nearly two weeks ago I sat my final exam & I'm still trying to take it all in as any day soon I'll get my final results to graduate.
Well I've definately been enjoying the peace so far, my brain has had more time to think about others things & can now be filled with wonderful things such as words & music. I've also had some me time, Sunday night I watched a couple of episodes of the OC (yep still truckin through that) & I'm back to doing some reading again. I've also been able to catch up with a few friends, nothing too crazy as I'm on the ends of the flu as well from all the building stress.
I'm still yet to go to the shops to buy my CDs, unfortunately getting into a routine again has taken up more of my time. I've been so used to being so organised, it's nice to have a little chaos. My focus has shifted to my health, ensuring I get a good balance of sleep as well spending my time focusing on getting back to doing the things I love. Which is a fitting theme for this week's track which was only released late last week. Wrap your eyes & ears around it below:
Jen Cloher an Australian singer-songwriter, currently based in Melbourne. She recorded and toured with her band Jen Cloher & the Endless Sea from 2006 to 2010. An artist who runs & co manages record label "Milk Records" in Melbourne also. "Forgot Myself" is a beautifully written song about the struggles & sacrifices of a long distance relationship.
Jen Cloher who has been making music for more than two decades, with three albums (Dead Wood Falls, Hidden Hands & In Blood Memory) under her belt over the decades she has shaped Australian Rock. Her partner & well known musician Courtney Barnett over the past few years has also been dealing with her musical success & "Forgot Myself" in it's rawness goes across the emotions that Jen goes through throughout the process of them both touring/juggling a relationship & withstanding a successful music career.
I really digged the track, as with whatever goes on in our lives, sometimes it's easy to forgot about looking after yourself. With so much going on, you can easily be consumed by what everyone else is doing, the fear of missing out, the fear of not looking busy/happily juggling everything. Sometimes it's nice to just take a good step back & bring yourself back to the level ground. Like me, I'm watching the dust settle & after I get my exam results, I can finally move ahead & on to the next thing I want to do.
With the release of this new single, Jen Cloher has announced her new self-titled & fourth album will be released Friday 11th August. Jen Cloher will tour the album through Australia in August, before travelling to the U.S. to serve as the opening act for Barnett and Vile's co-headlining tour.
Hope you dig this track as much as I do!
Cheers
Amy
