F E M A L E - Sampa The Great

The long weekend is over now & reality is starting to kick in, it's EXAM WEEK! As of tomorrow afternoon I'll have sat my final exam! With huge amounts of positivity I'm looking forward to being free as a bird & getting that degree! My results won't come through till the first week of July but tomorrow all I can do is go in there & give it my all. Once its all over, I can take a huge sigh of relief, chill out & then get excited all over again as my cousin Megan & her boyfriend Murray land tomorrow evening from Scotland.

With so much excitement happening this week as well as over the next couple of weeks/months, this week its all about empowerment, motivation & focus. Music is a powerful tool & a key motivator for me personally. In the past week I've just been listening to my rotating playlist & getting myself pumped up for this exam. Whats amazing about music is when you listen to certain songs the lyrics can empower you, the beat can pump you up & put you in a more empowering mood but most of all whatever you are listening to can make you feel a lot deeper & provide a deeper understanding of whats going on around you.

With my final exam just around the corner, my focus is now completely on this exam so it will be a shorter post this week. This week as you may have guessed is a track full of empowerment. Wrap your ears & capes around it below:

Sampa The Great is a singer songwriter/poet who aims to inspire her audience with thought provoking lyrics. Living in Sydney for the past two years; Sampa was born in Zambia & raised in Botswana. Her love of hip hop started at quite a young age & after a bunch of boys in the school yard told her "You can't rap because you're a girl" made it her mission to prove them wrong & become one of the best.

I was lucky but at Laneway Festival earlier this year, I got a chance to see this lady live in action at the front row & damn she is powerful! Marching up onto the stage, cape tied around her neck she carried such a fierceness. As she rapped & sung on stage she encouraged the audience & especially the women in the audience that with belief in ourselves we are powerful, beautiful & strong. Her lyrics are full of encouragement, fight & serious burns to anyone who doubts otherwise.

"F E M A L E" was one of the tracks that day that really stuck with me & will be an anthem as I tackle this final exam. "F E M A L E" is also one of the tracks off her 12 track mixtape "The Great Mixtape". I love this track as it's a reminder that we are strong & we are a lot more amazing than we think.

If you're digging her material, she has recently started a national tour with Melbourne based hip hop artist Remi literally begun end of last week! You can check out below for any dates/tickets below:

Fri., 16 Jun - 170 Russell (Formerly Billboard), Melbourne, VIC, Australia

Sat., 17 Jun - The Zoo, Fortitude Valley, QLD, Australia

Sat., 25 Nov - Commonwealth Park, Canberra, ACT, Australia

Alright I'm off to study, hope that everyone has a great week!

Cheers

Amy
