Death to the Lads - The Smith Street Band

Crazy to believe it, but I am in my final week of uni holidays which means it's almost that time to pack my school stuff, bring out my desk & get the study shoes back on. Absolutely brilliant news but yesterday I got the final results from my uni subject & scored a credit. So finally I can announce that I have only ONE SUBJECT left & then I can graduate & enjoy the simple pleasures of life again!!

Unsure when I was exactly going to get my results back this week, but I'm glad I've found out early that its a positive result & can now for the rest of this week get motivated to focus on my final subject; Financial information systems is definately going to be an interesting challenge! so BRING IT!

Well after last week I'm still on the come down from the Porter Robinson & Madeon concert, that concert was truly something else. Personally I would love it if they released an album or a live recording of that full concert; the mixes throughout were glorious & I believe it would easily sell like hot cakes! Aside from that this past week I've been listening to a mix of tracks, I've been listening to Illy a lot (his Sydney show in April has officially sold out!) Middle Kids, The Killers, Above & Beyond, Julia Jacklin, Dappled Cities & Franz Ferdinand. Just genuinely working through my current playlist but after my good result with uni I will have to head to the shops & treat myself to some new CDs.

Keen to especially get:

  • Paint - Holy Holy

  • Bardo State - Horrorshow

  • Middle Kids EP - Middle Kids

  • When we Fall - All Our Exes Live in Texas

This week's track is a track that I've had on my brain for a good couple of months now it was released near the end of last year & as soon as it reached my ear lobes late last year it's been caught in my head. I've watched the music video at least a few dozens times & I think it's just adorable! Check it out below:

The Smith Street Band are an alternative band from Melbourne, Australia. Originally started in September 2009 the band consists of Wil Wagner (Vocals/Guitar), Chris Cowburn (Drums/Vocals), Lee Hartney (Guitar/Vocals) & Fitzy Fitzgerald (Bass).

"Death to the Lads" is the first single from their 4th LP ‘More Scared Of You Than You Are Of Me‘ which will be released a month from now 7th April. When the song was first released beginning of November last year in an early interview with Triple J Wil Wagner mentioned that the track "It's mainly about growing up and changing, admitting we make mistakes and trying to improve ourselves."

Their latest album will be released through their newly announced record label Pool House Records (Aus) as well as SideOneDummy Records (Nth America), Specialist Subject Records (UK) and Uncle M (Euro). "Death to the Lads" like when I first listened to it late last year instantly became a fan favourite, appearing #21 in the Triple J Hottest 100.

Just last week they announced an Australian wide tour to celebrate the release of their album ‘More Scared Of You Than You Are Of Me‘ & will be on the road around Australia from May. Along for the ride they’re bringing explosive Californian band Joyce Manor, Melbourne mates Ceres & indie-pop SideOneDummy label mate Allison Weiss with them.
