Darling - Real Estate

We're almost in our last month of Summer & tomorrow it will be February! The warmer days are still here & the humidity is definately being felt all round! My final uni assessment has been completed & this week I can finally focus on my final exam that will be in the next few weeks. I'm in a happier place than I was last week (a complete weight has been lifted off my shoulders - that group work was the worst I've ever had to experience) so I'm glad to announce that its my final group work ever too for this degree!

I know that if I work hard now after my exam I get nearly a month off, so I'll be hitting the shops this week to buy my new CDs & start the exam prep.

Well what a great first month of music it's been, to tick off my wishlist by seeing London Grammar live, I've got Laneway Festival this weekend & then a week after my exam mid-feb I have Porter Robinson & Madeon. I've been listening to an array of artists lately to get me in the mood for Laneway.

Last week was also the Triple J's Hottest 100 Countdown & this is how I did!

A.B Original - Dumb Things (Ft. Paul Kelly/Dan Sultan) (Live a Version 2016)

Alex Lahey - You Don't Think You Like People Like Me

Broods - Heartlines

Courtney Barnett - Three Packs a Day

D.D Dumbo - Satan

Hayden James - Just a Lover

Illy - Papercuts (Feat. Vera Blue)

Porter Robinson & Madeon - Shelter

Tourist - Run

Urthboy - Second Heartbeat (feat. Sampa the Great/Okenyo)

Not too shady at all I think I did alright! Lets just say I wasn't surprised at all that Flume took the top dog award of #1 but am truly delighted for him! I think what most excited me a whole lot more was Amy Shark's "Adore" getting #2 - for an unearthed artist that is just amazing!

There was QUITE a number of other songs in the countdown that I'm happy about & others I actually truly had no idea about! Which was great as that's whats so good about discovering new artists - there are so many! Knowing me I'll probably work through the list & see what artists will be fun to look up! Apparently over 60% total votes were for Australian artists too, so well done everyone on the local love!

Hottest 100 is usually a staple for Australia Day alongside the BBQ shapes & the good times. But since last year I've been doing a lot of soul searching myself. I love my country but I'm easy going with what day I can celebrate that love. I'll enjoy a day with friends & good times, but I also acknowledge & respect the true owners of this land so next year I would love to see Australia Change the Date.

A bunch of local & favourite Australian/Indigenous Hip Hop artists (Such as Coda Conduct, Nooky, Birds, Urthboy, L-Fresh The Lion, Kaylah Truth, Ozi Batla, Thundamentals & Hau) have put together a passionate plea to Change the date. Listen with your ears & also with your heart the lyrics are amazing. This is important for the future of our country.

This week's track is a slice of indie goodness. It's been a while since I've heard from this band but their newly released track is quickly becoming a favourite of mine. Wrap your eyes & ears around it below:

Real Estate are an American rock band from New Jersey, United States. The band formed in 2009 & consists of Martin Courtney (vocals, guitar), Alex Bleeker (bass, vocals), Matt Kallman (keyboards), Jackson Pollis (drums), & Julian Lynch (guitar). In 2011, Real Estate signed with the Domino Recording Company, they've also released 3 albums.

"It's Real" in 2011 was one of the first tracks I ever heard of Real Estate & I absolutely love it. You can listen to it here. The latest single before "Darling" from Real Estate was "Talking Backwards" which was released in early 2014 so its been an anticipated 2 year wait between albums. The band's third album, Atlas was also released in 2014.

"Darling" was released last week & is an absolutely lovely track, I always love Real Estate for their dreamy & poppy style. Now with the release of their single "Darling" there is an impending 4th Album "In Mind" that is being released 17th March. Which I already predict will be an album I'll need to look out for!!

Hope you all have a dreamy week!

Cheers Amy
