No Enemiesz - Kiesza

Hang in there guys we've almost made it entirely through January & what a crazy month it has been! I've officially got just under a month till my end of semester exam & luckily the workload hasn't been crazy but there is still quite a bit to do!

Since I've been busy working on a dreaded group report for the past few weeks, between study I've been listening to all the artists I'm looking forward to seeing in February at Laneway Festival! Gang of Youths, Tourist, Sampa the Great, D.D Dumbo, Tash Sultana & Glass Animals. I heard in the past week that there was visa issues with Young Thug coming along so the Dune Rats have stepped in their place quite quickly. I'm really starting to get excited about Laneway as its my absolute favourite festival of all time! The maps & times slot were released in the past week too & there doesn't seem to be any clashes at all!

Sydney Set times:

I've also been listening a lot lately to longstanding Aussie Hip Hop artist Illy as I'll be seeing him perform in April. It's amazing actually how many albums he has written that I've managed to collect over the years. Lately it's just been going back to his original albums "Long Story Short" & "The Chase".

Last Friday afternoon I also heard the shock news about Babylon Festival, a lifestyle & music festival that I was going to in March. I was really looking forward to getting my chill on but this event has unfortunately been cancelled due to difficulties with land owners. Unfortunately with these smaller boutique festivals, there is quite a number of hoops to jump through for land, that & dealing with complaints from the neighbourhood.

I also finally got round to voting in the Triple J Hottest 100! Only took me two hours (literally!) to whittle down from the many hundreds of songs. At first I got my list down to 30, but the struggle was truly real when I had to knock songs out for the top spots. I'd have to be honest & say that my number 11 would have been 1955 feat. Montaigne - Hilltop Hoods & hearing it on the radio yesterday morning I'm sad I couldn't squeeze it in but am happy with what I sent through in the end! It will be interesting who ends up in the number 1 spot!

Did you get a chance to vote?

& finally! Now that most of my big assessment is almost done. I should hopefully have it handed in before the end of this week. Next week as a treat yo self I'll be hitting the shops to buy these beauties below:

"I See You" - The XX (Literally released last week)

"Notion EP" - Tash Sultana

"Reclaim Australia" - A.B Original

Now onto this weeks track! This week's track is from 2014 & is an absolute dance track, I heard it late last week through my playlist on my commute to work & have been boogie-ing to it non-stop since. Check it out below & don't forget your boogie shoes:

Kiesza is a Canadian singer and multi-instrumentalist from Calgary. Well known for her track release "Hideaway" that was released in 2014 & for her debut album "Sound of A Woman". There is definately a few good tracks on this album to dance to as I know that when her track "Hideaway" came out I watched the music video a thousand times to see if I could learn the moves. You can check out the track here

Also when the album was released I got it pre-ordered & sent to my office! She almost had a show here in Sydney, but unfortunately bigger fame took her to the UK & since then she has collaborated with a number of successful artists such as Jack U & Skrillex.

Soon we could be hearing from Kiesza this year with a promised second album, which was unfortunately delayed due to a death of a close friend, understanding the circumstances Kiesza has taken this time to heal & step away from music for a bit. The first single that will be tied to this second album is titled "Dearly Beloved" & you can listen to it ---> here

The track is definately a new direction for Kiesza & the guitar used in the music video was actually a beloved item of her best friend. I look forward to what new material Kiesza puts forward this year & can't wait to see whats in store!

Hope that you all have a fabulous week!

Cheers Amy
