Well this past week has been an absolute blur, I've been back in Australia for just over a week. At least I've completely unpacked now! Uni has been tough to get back into, but I'm working my way through it & I guess before I know it, it's Christmas! For the first time in years I have actually no clue what to do for Christmas/ New Year celebrations & its slightly fabulous & chaotic at the same time to not know.
There are years where you want to just to hang with a good couple of mates, great tunes & the fireworks on the TV & I guess for me the past few years I've not been in Sydney for New Year - I've been lucky to celebrate it in another country & or another part of Australia! Though when I have been in Sydney I've had years where I've gone to Circular Quay last minute to catch the fireworks.
Speaking of Sydney Harbour, Crowded House graced the Sydney Opera House steps with their presence for 4 nights last week & I'm kicking myself that I didn't get a ticket to actually go. Sunday night through ABCtv they broadcasted live the final nights performance & would you believe a whopping 600K Australians tuned in to watch it live on the telly! If that wasn't a great attempt to showcase just what a vibrant city Sydney can be then I wouldn't know what else #keepsydneyopen
It was also the ARIA's awards mid last week & a few special mentions should go to Montaigne (Breakthrough Artist Award) , Violent Soho (Best Rock Album & Best Group), Sia (Best Female Artist & for using Marriage Equality to accept her award), Drapht (Best Urban Album), King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard (Best Hard Rock/Heavy Metal Album) & lastly to Flume who took out a whopping 5 ARIAs awards on the night. Crowded House were also inducted into the Music Hall of Fame & JOHN FARNHAM of all people ended the show with his belter of a track "You're The Voice".
Another belter of a track was for last week's Triple J Like A Version, A.B. Original & the man himself Paul Kelly came on & did an incredible rendition of Kelly's "Dumb Things". If you haven't heard it yet, you will not be disappointed! You can check it out here
Leading on to this week's track, I've chosen a band that not only has incredible tracks of their own but has also done an incredible cover of a rather wonderful song. Wrap your ears around it below:
Boy & Bear are an Australian indie rock-folk music band that formed in 2009. The band consists of band members David Hosking (vocals & guitar), Tim Hart (drums & vocals), Killian Gavin (vocals & guitar), Jonathan Hart (vocals, banjo, mandolin & keyboards) & David Symes (Bass guitar).
This cover of Crowded House's "Fall At Your Feet" has got to be my ultimate favourite cover done of Crowded House, with a close second following Sarah Blasko's "Don't Dream Its Over". Part of me on Sunday night, wanted Boy & Bear to come out & cameo like many others. But Crowded House are such a massive band & the stage just wouldn't be big enough!
Boy & Bear have three released albums; Moonfire (August 2011), Harlequin Dream (August 2013) & "Limit of Love" (October 2015).
Hope you enjoy some indie folk to help you breeze through the rest of the week!
Cheers
