I Believe In a Thing Called Love - The Darkness

Dun Dun Dun! The time has arrived & it's exam week - do I feel stressed - a little! Do I feel tired? - maybe! but I'm almost there! By the end of this working week I'll have sat my two exams & by Friday lunchtime I'll be doing cartwheels! I've got a cracking number of artists that are helping me get through the uni stress & this why I love music so much.

No matter what mood you are in, music always has a way of talking to you, lifting your mood, motivating you to do better, to run faster & to feel an overall feeling of good. The main song that I've been non-stop listening to for the past few weeks now & usually its played at the beginning of every listening session is called "Placid Acid" by Tourist (you can give it a listen by clicking here.) There is just something so calming about this track & it's the track that is getting me pumped to ace my exams this week! But as I always say you've got to listen to it all the way through cause what a build up, by the time you get to the best bit you are going to struggle to keep still & not dance!

As well as listening to Tourist, I've been listening to a lot of dance tracks mainly instrumental or with few lyrics that way as I study I'm not way too distracted & begin singing through my note taking! So I've also been listening to Above & Beyond (I've been running back to their 200th episode for euphoria) Gang of Youths, Jarryd James, Flight Facilities, Porter Robinson, Hayden James, Kimbra & Jamie XX.

Another thing this week that I'm passionate about musically is the Sydney initiative of "Keep Sydney Open" (http://www.keepsydneyopen.com) nearly 2 years ago our Australian Government made the choice to constrict the City of Sydney of many things but mainly; live music, late curfews, shots after midnight, dance venues/pubs, late night hospitality work/workers & it's almost basically killed the overall late night creative vibe of Sydney. Since 2014 where any patron left outside a bar/pub after 1:30am will then be sent home & refused entry, the city has slightly become more & more of a ghost town after that time & other areas of Sydney have overflowed with patrons & also now left to mop up what effects hit Sydney city earlier before. If you love to cut shapes & be the chooser of your own nighttime destiny please sign the petition by clicking the link above & help make Sydney late again!

This week's track is an older song that I feel I've not heard in such a long time & the euphoria that hit me when I heard it was absolutely amazing! Get rocking to it here:

Last Friday night I ended up hitting Frankie's with a friend & I'll tell you it's been a while since I was in the bar tavern on a Friday night. Usually suspecting a live band since there is live music played there Wednesday to Friday nights instead there was a grand string of historic & well bellowed rock n roll tracks. "I Believe in a Thing called Love" was one of them & it hit me like 2003. I don't know when in history my iTunes stopped playing me The Darkness, but their album "One Way Ticket to Hell…and Back" as well as tracks from "Permission to Land" is still snuggled between my other tracks. What made it even more amazing was the number of people around bellowing the track as well as hand clapping & pretending to play air guitar. (I pretty much did all three, including lunges to rock near my knees haha)

The Darkness are a British rock band from Lowestoft, Suffolk that formed in 1999. The band consists of Justin Hawkins on lead vocals/ guitar, his brother Dan Hawkins on guitar/ backing vocals, Frankie Poullain on bass/backing vocals & lastly Rufus Taylor on drums. "I Believe In a Thing Called Love" was released as the third single from their debut studio album "Permission to Land". Maybe its the spandex & the long hair, but these guys when I first heard of them reminded me of a good o'l fashioned heavy rock band & I'll tell you it's been a while since I've been out & heard a good string of rock n roll tracks.

Hope you enjoyed this track as much as I did & hopefully next week I should have some "treat yo self" CDs to review once I'm on uni break!

Cheers Amy
