As I reach the ends of my final assessment, there is a slight calmness before I know I reach the storm ahead. Exams will be coming up & as soon as I've submitted my final assessment I'll have a few weeks of revision locked in. Here's to lots of coffee & hopefully not too many late nights ahead!
There was a bit of relief over the weekend, my final assessment which I thought was due Monday is in fact due this Friday so with an extra few days up my sleeve I managed to have a bit of a break over the weekend. I did brunch & went for a walk in the sun on Saturday & Sunday I went out early to see Studio Ghibli's latest animation "The Red Turtle" lucky lucky me but a week or two ago I won two tickets & as much as there was no dialogue (it was purely instrumental) the story line was simple yet beautifully told. Then I went out for lunch in Chippendale & finally got a chance to try Reynold from Master chef's dessert bar "Koi". It was really really really nice to be outside & enjoying the sunshine, but like that Eminem song "Snap back to Reality, Oops there goes gravity!"
This week I've been listening to my personal playlist whilst studying so it's mainly been a shuffle. I've been listening to The Beautiful Girls, Broods, Thirsty Merc, Fleetwood Mac, Above & Beyond, Catfish & The Bottlemen & Alex Lahey. Hard to believe now, but around this time last year I was at Above & Beyond's 150th Show, can't believe that it's been a whole year since! Great memories from that night, what a show! I'll admit it's also been a while since I've been CD shopping as I'm trying to give the CDs I've bought some valuable listening time. Though as a treat yo self, I know that when the exam period is over that there is definately a couple of CDs I'd like to get, so I'm happy to wait.
Last Wednesday I had an overdue catch up with a couple of the girls & even got a chance to catch a live band also! We went to Frankie's Pizza for a couple of ciders & pizza. As a bonus Wednesday, Thursday & Friday nights Frankie's Pizza holds live music. You can check out their gig list --> here. The night we were there it was a band from Canberra called "Duck Duck Goose" they did a couple of originals & covers from Bloc Party & Rage Against the Machine - very very cool!
As a promise to myself when I'm on uni holidays, I will try to see more & more live music. I still believe that live music is a wonderful part of Sydney's nightlife. Unfortunately with battles due to lockout laws, many well known pubs/bars have been closing. But Frankie's Pizza, Hero of Waterloo, The Orient Hotel, The Soda Factory & plenty others are still holding the fort! There is actually currently a great initiative that I've seen & read about lately regarding Keeping Sydney Open, many well known bars/pubs that have struggled to remain open due to the lock out laws now have plaques of artists that once played there as a memory of a time where creativity was nurtured & not nanny-ed. If you would like to read the article about what "Keep Sydney Open" have been up to you can so here.
This Thursday I will be checking out more live music as there is a gig in Enmore. The Melting Caps, Angry Little Gods & Thunder Fox will be playing - its going to be a great gig!
This week's track, is from one of my top 10 Dance artists who has been previously shared on Play it Forward >> before. This track is slowly becoming a favourite of mine, wrap your eyes & ears around it below:
William Phillips is a British electronic musician & songwriter, but is well known by his stage name Tourist. I've been currently obsessed with his track "Run" from his latest album "U" & now only after recently purchasing tickets to Laneway Festival I'm very excited that he is one of the artists on the bill that I will get to see live.
Hope your week is just as fantastic as this track! Cheers Amy
