So I'm absolutely in love with my new website! & I know its only been a week but I feel like I'm completely at home! The response last week was especially overwhelming & I'm so glad that everyone else agrees! Once again thank you for your support, I really appreciate the positive feedback & I look forward to the exciting times ahead for Play it Forward >> & definately definately looking forward to sharing more & more awesome tracks with you all!
So everything seems to be coming up milhouse, I'm now officially after that part of the semester where I've made it over the biggest hurdle. I only have one assignment to go then just under a month to get ready for exams. Knock on wood *knock* but fingers crossed this will be the last semester I have to complete two subjects full time. Meaning next semester I'll have time to juggle normality & even spend more time outside! With Spring well & truly on its way, I literally can't wait for the lazy sunny days & fresh air ahead! & as well as that the beginning of my next semester/ November is when I've got my trip to Japan! *squee*
Anyway enough about uni & onto the music! It's been a crazy past week for musical announcements, Crowded House has announced a return to the forecourt of Sydney Opera House in late November, which means this is actually the first time in 20 years that they will have performed on those steps. Also Patti Smith as well as her band announced yesterday two extra intimate sideshows from her Bluesfest headline for April next year. I'm keen to see both shows, if I have enough money & fast fingers when the tickets go onsale!
Speaking of fast fingers, I was able to take advantage of the VISA Presale for Laneway Festival 2017 tickets last week. Laneway Festival above all music festivals in Australia is my ultimate favourite. There is usually not much I can falter about the festival as the planning/organisation behind the lineup, time slots, free artist signings, the bar queue to even the bathrooms is well planned & well thought out. Now that tickets are bought I can add finally to my want/hope to see list:
Gang of Youths
Jagwar Ma
Nick Murphy (Chet Faker)
Sampa the Great
Tash Sultana
Tourist
Camp Cope
Floating Points
I was too slow to buy tickets but over the weekend Kimya Dawson was playing at the Newtown Social Club. Her last visit to Australia being in 2011, it would have been a good show to go to. Unfortunately though due to family health matters her tours in Melbourne & Sydney were last minute cancelled & will be rescheduled for a later date. Funnily enough on the bus this morning I had one of her songs come on "I Like Giants" & its just the kind of song that puts everything into perspective. This week's track was only literally released last week - hot off the press! By an indie artist whose track is quickly becoming a fave of mine! Wrap your ears around it below:
Teddy Mykaels is an American indie pop artist from Chicago. "Sweetest Pills" is his newest single which was released last week on the 12th September. The track released on his own accord, Teddy Mykaels is an unsigned artist clearly making his own mark in the music industry & is one artist to definately watch for 2016!
If you are keen to listen to his earlier works "Red Lipstick" this track was the first single off his debut EP "The Ghost EP" released in 2014. This track alone is currently racking over 6000 hits on YouTube. You can listen to "Red Lipstick" --> here
"Sweetest Pills" so far I've listened to this track literally a dozen times this past week since its release. What really grabs me about this track is the beginning. I feel like after only a few seconds of TV static that I've been blasted into a synth pop dream. All I want to do is just drop everything & dance on the spot with maybe a cocktail or two! This track is just too much fun with sweet synth throughout.
"Sweetest Pills" has got a bit of an 80s vibe to it, like a tiny slice of paradise! As we make our way through Spring here in Australia, I see myself especially listening to this track throughout the warmer months leading to Summer. At first listen, I would liken Teddy to worldwide artists such as Charli XCX, Sky Ferreira, UV Boi & St Lucia to name a few. Though clearly Teddy Mykaels is paving his own unique style of indie pop.
I'll make them fucking love me,
Just taste the sweetest pills,
I'm overdosing baby,
Oh turn the light off,
Oh turn the light off,
I'll make you fucking love me,
Just taste the sweetest pills,
Just taste the sweetest pills,
