Clair De Lune feat. Christine Hoberg - Flight Facilities

What a post have I got planned for this week! Not only have I got a great song to share, a live gig review but it's actually PLAY IT FORWARD's >> 1st birthday this week! & it has definitely been a crazy 52 weeks filled with great music so far!

To think over a year ago I had been feeling slightly creatively squashed, crammed by uni & by work then before I knew it I was jet setting for a road trip with one of my besties across the USA. On my travels I saw so many sites, ate so much food, went to Disneyland & even got a tattoo in Seattle to end the trip! Now the absolute grandest part about travel is it gets you to see life at so many different perspectives & what ifs. I came back ever so determined to accomplish many things & within that first weekend of flying back "Play it Forward >>" was born. Inspired by friends over the years to take a passion & make it greater than anything you could just hold I submitted my first post to this blog as a form of freedom from the other tasks of life.

I feel like it was only yesterday that the first track I excitedly shared with you all was "House Every Weekend" by David Zowie. The excitement welled up inside of me as I knew I was giving myself something wonderful to look forward to each week but with an even greater excuse to do what I love most & that is to share music. Nothing gets me more excited & happier than when I learn about a new artist or new song, it takes a lot of heart to show others what you prefer to listen to in the many moods positive or negative that we experience & to share those emotions when a favourite song comes on. Just the absolute thrill of sharing that excitement with others is what I love the most. If I could bottle that feeling up I would.

So over the weekend, I went to see Flight Facilities + Sydney Symphony Orchestra. Think of all the possible guest vocalists on Flight Facilities tracks for they were there & just to name a few; Emma Louise, Grosvenor, Owl Eyes & Elizabeth Rose. But truly the icing on the cake for me was when Flight Facilities thanked Sydney at the end of the gig, but didn't want to stop there (neither did I). They had one more sneaky surprise collab up there sleeves with a perfect song & artist to end the night. It was only until I could hear the "dun dun da dun dun da" & a light shined on the right hand side of the stage to a man in a full white suit & I screamed like a little fangirl as it was John Paul Young himself!! He was collaborating with Flight Facilities to sing his well known 1978 worldwide hit "Love Is in the Air".

For most of the night I had complete goosebumps, just to hear the tracks mixed in with a live orchestra was just breath taking. The orchestra really makes the live experience extra special & every single sound was clear as crystal from the cymbals to the sax & the booming big drums. The first track played for the night was a fave of mine "Two Bodies" featuring Emma Louise starting slow & steady like an extended mix then Emma Louise in a large white gown glided from the right hand side of the stage. Vocalists were absolutely spot on with the orchestra as well. Throughout the night there was also a lot of booty shaking, disco dancing & shoe shimmie-ing but for "Love is in the Air" it was ballroom dancing & lots of spinning. Even Jasmine & I both at some point pretended we were planes circling around & it was just too much fun!

One song that really got me & I mean got me good is this week's track, as I've said numerous times before I love the feeling that music gives us, once this track finished on Saturday I had goosebumps & happy tears (thanks for the cuddle Jasmine). So please check this out below:

Flight Facilities are an Australian electronic duo consisting of Hugo Gruzman & James Lyell. It all began in 2009 & from then they began crafting their own style of music. Flight Facilities became well known to me from their first original song "Crave You" featuring vocalist Giselle Rosselli released through Triple J in 2010. When that song first came out I was truly obsessed, especially with such lyrics as:

Around his little finger, that boy has got me curled

I try to reach out but he's in his own world

This boy's got my head tied in knots with all his games

I simply want him more because he looks the other way

In 2012 "Clair De Lune" featuring vocalist Christine Hoberg was released & then it featured on their debut album "Down to Earth" released through record label Future Classic in 2014. There is something special about "Clair De Lune" that is quite mysterious but haunting, the continous beat is trancey but the track is all still so very chill. Throughout the track the sound slowly builds up, with a slight tease of the odd xylophone chime.

Don't go, tell me that the lights won't change, Tell me that you'll feel the same, and we'll stay here forever, Don't go, tell me that the lights won't change, Tell me that it'll stay the same, Where we go, where we, Where we go, where we go, Where we go, where we go, where we go.

Christine Hoberg's vocals are just perfect for this track, & for the live orchestra show Owl Eye's gave the song justice, just angelic. Hope it gave you goosebumps like it did for me!

& wow what a year! Thanks also to you all for following/ listening/ sharing "Play it Forward >>" & here's to many more decades of music sharing to come!

Cheers Amy
