Hold Back The River - James Bay

Lyrics are powerful tools that help to connect emotions with music & there are many different songs across the world that are very powerful due to the lyrics within the songs. Music probably underestimates just how powerful it can be, but music can powerfully convey many messages. It can be a message for peace, a universal language, a message for hope, a message for love or a way to express emotions when emotions are difficult to express. To name just a few songs there's The Beatles "Let it Be", John Lennon's "Imagine", Michael Jackson's "Heal The World", Helen Reddy's "I Am Woman", Journey's "Don't Stop Believin" & Black Eyed Peas "Where is the Love?" just to name a few.

Just only a few days ago one of my favourite pop groups The Black Eyed Pea's re-released their 2003 hit "Where is the Love?" because with what current & past events have been happening across the world, they wanted to re-send the message & remind people of the world just really what life is all about.

It just ain't the same, old ways have changed New days are strange, is the world insane? If love and peace are so strong Why are there pieces of love that don't belong? Nations droppin' bombs Chemical gasses fillin' lungs of little ones With ongoin' sufferin' as the youth die young So ask yourself is the lovin' really gone

With vocals from Justin Timberlake, Usher, The Game, Jessie J, Jaden Smith, Jamie Foxx, Nicole Scherzinger & P. Diddy, the track highlights race divisions & hatred we still experience across the globe today. You can view the track here

This week's track is another song that I absolutely love the lyrics from. It's a track that simplistic but beautiful. Wrap your ears around it below:

James Bay is an English singer-songwriter & guitarist. His track "Hold Back The River" was released in 2014. This track is also a song on his debut album "Chaos & The Calm" which was released last year in 2015.

The song is haunting, yet simplistic & the lyrics tell a story about love & life. How time sometimes slips away from us, & how we forget that both these things in life are precious.

Hold back the river, let me look in your eyes Hold back the river, so I Can stop for a minute and see where you hide Hold back the river, hold back Once upon a different life We rode our bikes into the sky But now we're caught against the tide Those distant days all flashing by

Days will always flash before us, but its up to us as individuals to make the most of our time. So don't forget to stop for a moment & just look around you.

Hope you all have a wonderful week!

Cheers Amy
