Not too sure really how I do it, but naturally on the Consolidation/Catch up week for Uni & I've managed to score myself the flu as well! Hard to believe that it is even Consolidation week which means that I'm actually halfway through my uni semester - this year is going way too fast! The days are feeling slightly longer, there has been some pretty epic sunsets & the sun is trying to peek out a lot more. Just over a week too & it will be Spring again! Which means that a special anniversary is creeping on its way up! I'll give you readers a week or two to guess!
Last week I managed to make some free time & went late night shopping so I bought myself a couple of CDs;
Alex Lahey - B Grade University - Only released on the 29th July, I was lucky enough to see the free EP launch gig at Newtown's Tokyo Sing Song (July 15th) before she hit a set at Splendour. This artist is definitely going up in the world & now this week she starts her National EP tour before touring alongside The John Steel Singers. I've been really digging the tracks "Wes Anderson", "You Don't Think You Like People Like Me" & "L-L-L-Leave Me Alone"
Montaigne - Glorious Heights -Released on the 5th August, this is Jessica Cerro's debut album. Well known as Montaigne for majority of her career, I first heard of Montaigne through her song "Fantastic Wreck" & also her vocals on Hilltop Hoods track "1955". I've been really digging the tracks "In the Dark", "Consolation Prize" & of course "Glorious Heights"
Little May - For The Company - Still yet to listen to this album, Little May are an Indie Folk trio from Sydney. They were a lucky dip for me, as I've heard their band name thrown around a few times. I look forward to checking it out & letting you all know what I think of it next week!
Foster The People - Supermodel - Still also yet to listen to this album, Foster The People have been part of my music playlist for years. Well known to me because of their album "Torches" & their tracks "Pumped Up Kicks", "Call It What You Want" & "Houdini". This album "Supermodel" was released in 2014 so I'm a bit slow, but look forward to listening to it & letting you all know what I think of it next week!
So between sniffles over the weekend I've managed to catch up with my uni notes & listen to some music. Now that I've caught up this week I can finally relax a little & even get a head start on my assessments. This week's track was promo-ed last week on my favourite radio station & is the best blasts from the pasts I've heard in a while. Like a phoenix in the ashes I bring you this weeks track, you can wrap your ears around it on here:
Out of the many voices I seem to recall, Little Birdy has a voice distinct & hard to forget. Similar voices such as Karen O from the "Yeah Yeah Yeahs", Alice Glass from "Crystal Castles" & Sarah Blasko would be other female voices that are timeless for this generation. One of my favourite tracks from Little Birdy was —> this
Well she's back baby! This single "Where's The Laughter" was released on the 8th August & is her first single in what feels like a decade! Hopefully soon that means there will be an album & a national tour coming up! Can't wait!
Hope you all have a fab week!
Cheers Amy
