Always good to have a little chaos in your life, it's what makes life that little bit interesting! Aside work & uni I've been keeping myself busy with a number of projects & I guess there are times that I wonder how I handle it all but sometimes you just have to push & get through it.
Music has always been a very motivational part of my life, it picks me up, pumps me up & just gives me an all round good feeling. In this past week I've had an essay to work on so once again this week I've been delving back to artists I've loved over the years. I've been listening to Two Door Cinema Club, The Killers, Thirsty Merc & also working my way through those CDs; The Beautiful Girls, PNAU, Roger Sanchez & of course my current faves Gang of Youths.
Amazed to believe that we are halfway through August, in just under a month I have the Flight Facilities gig at The Domain, I've also heard that there is a gig for Alex Lahey as well as Kimya Dawson near the end of September. Before we all know it, it will be the end of the year & I haven't even started planning what I'm doing for New Years. I'll admit there have been quite a number of boutique camping festivals cropping up & I'm still trying to justify the pricing as well as the variety of artists scheduled. One thing that the UK & USA have up on us Aussies are music festivals. Now I'm not dissing our music festivals our lineups are great, location is great, weather is great but it just seems a bit harsh to whack a $300 fee (not including camping & drinks!) just for 3 days or even less! I remember actually getting a fake ID JUST so I could go to Parklife as the line up was amazing & price was reasonable. It's when sponsors attempt to capitalise on music where its deemed to be unfair & clouds what music festivals are about. Anyway I could talk about this till the cows come home so rant over.
This week I've got a new track stuck in my head, from a young gun whose only 21! But is already deeming to become a whiz in the dance world. You can check it out below:
When I first heard this track, it was last Friday & I was working through my essay. I was hooked instantly & even at first thought it was a new track from Disclosure. Young Franco is actually a 21 yr old superstar from Brisvegas. He's been making tracks & mixes exposing himself through Triple J Unearthed from the age of 19. But mainly his tracks & mixes are promoted through self run label "Of Leisure" & his Soundcloud page. (Check it out --> here)
The Brisbane producer recently wrapped up his Australian tour early July & the weekend before last he headlined at Chinese Laundry. But "Drop Your Love" featuring vocals from three piece Dirty Radio. The track was only released officially last Thursday & "Drop Your Love" is a first track release for Young Franco.
This funky track is quickly becoming a regular on my playlist & once again the lyrics have got me hooked too.
I almost missed the bus That brings me right up to your spot Make sure that you roll one up So we can lay back & smoke up I trip when I take a step Cause I'm always thinking of ya You feel all that I give Cause that's just how you're 'sposed to
It should be interesting to see where Young Franco goes from here, he's already selling out national gigs & filling slots for music festivals such as Falls Festival & recent Splendour in the Grass. Hopefully we also have some great collaborations to look forward to as well just in time for the warmer months!
Hope you all have an amazing week!
Cheers Amy
