You know when you listen to a song & it just stuns you, it creeps in like a quiet fog & you hold your breath as you don't want to even make a sound. The headphones are in & for those few minutes your worlds grown quieter & your grasping onto every word & syllable sung. As a lover of most genres there are days when certain songs crop up & just get under your skin & get you completely.
Well for the first time yesterday morning & for the first time in a long time I had a song hit me right there in the feels. Last week I purchased newly released EPs "Let Me Be Clear" from Gang of Youths & Jarryd James "High". On "Let Me Be Clear" Gang of Youths have included a bonus track covering "Both Sides, Now" by Joni Mitchell. It only took me a moment when listening to stop & realise that this song is in fact the track that Emma Thompson's character in the movie "Love Actually" listens to moments after discovering a special gift which she thought she would receive for Xmas from her husband is in fact not for her, but has now sealed her belief that her husband has a newer admirer & in fact may be cheating on her. (You can listen to their cover -->here)
But now it's just another show You leave 'em laughing when you go And if you care, don't let them know Don't give yourself away I've looked at love from both sides now From give and take, and still somehow It's love's illusions I recall I really don't know love at all
I tell ya instant goosebumps; I was trying to hold back a tear on public transport. I just find it amazing that music can do that to us all, just instantly shake your world in a click. Both EPs have been excellent so far & these artists are definately on my wishlist to see live one day. Gang of Youths actually had a free gig in Newtown last week to celebrate the release of this new EP (& of course it was instantly bombarding Newtown Social Club, as the free gig was first in first serve!) I must admit it's harder with juggling uni work as well but I do wish I could have gone. I miss being able to just go & do things or have a spontaneous night out at whim, though the reality is I have assessments to finish & I must try to stay motivated especially being so close to finishing! Luckily there was social Media highlights & it did the gig some justice I managed to see a Facebook live video of my favourite track "Magnolia". Looking at the success from this gig I've got good feelings that both these artists will be touring Sydney very very soon!
This week's track is an oldie but a goodie, I remember when they first released their album being obsessed. I've actually seen this band at least 4 times & they never seem to disappoint. Wrap your ears around the track below, caution it's a dancey one!
Two Door Cinema Club are an Irish indie rock band from Bangor & Donaghadee in County Down. The band was formed in 2007 & consists of three members: Alex Trimble, Sam Halliday & Kevin Baird. The album was released through French Independent Record Label Kitsuné Music.
A favourite track of mine from their debut album "Tourist History" which was released in 2010. "I Can Talk" is just a super fun jumpy track to dance to, it's explosive & dancey in all the right places & always seems to get me smiling.
Nearly every time Two Door Cinema Club have come to Australia to tour I have seen them perform as there shows are always lots of fun; so I guess that would be about 4 times I've seen them!
Hope this track gets you dancing through the week as it has for me, have a good one!
Cheers Amy
