History Eraser - Courtney Barnett

So the song lyrics of the morning have been "I can't feel my face when I'm with You" as I went to the dentist this morning & got a filling all the way in the back right corner. Currently half my face is numb & it's just such a weird weird feeling (Honestly hope I haven't drooled!) Funny to admit but I like many others are a teensy bit overwhelmed by dentists which is actually a bold statement from me to claim as once I'm in the chair I'm grand, but it definately takes me a few minutes to settle & psych myself to get in the zone. Truly is mind over matter.

Dentists aside, there hasn't been any new music for me lately as this past week I've just been listening to my personal playlist. I've really been enjoying Broods new album as well as headbanging to Babymetal's album Metal Resistance (the heavy metal has actually been handy on public transport!) & other artists this week have been Above & Beyond, Ball Park Music, Fleetwood Mac, Alex Lahey, Dick Diver, The Cure, Courtney Barnett & Robyn. Sometimes I just go in moods where I specifically listening to artists or just press shuffle & let the universe decide. Last week which was definately a busy week so I was listening to Fleetwood Mac to get me through the working week;an oldie but definately always a goodie. One of my fave songs from them is "Seven Wonders" but my absolute favourite is "Everywhere" *cue goosebumps*

I've actually listened to slightly less music this week as I've been epically reading thriller book "Room" which amazingly took me only 10 days to read! (I definately enjoyed it) & now over the weekend I've managed to grab a copy of "Harry Potter & The Cursed Child" the final installment to the Harry Potter journey. (no spoilers promise!)

Well this week's track is one of my favourite songs from one of my favourite storytellers. Still hard to believe that only just nearly two years ago was when I began listening to her & from that point on I still think she is an amazing & ever growing artist.

Courtney Barnett is a singer-songwriter & guitarist from Melbourne, Australia. Well known for her witty, rambling lyrics & storytelling. She raises well known issues in politics, environment & society. Courtney Barnett releases her music through her own record Label Milk! Records & works alongside like minded artists in a community style, I listen to many other artists under this label; Fraser A Gorman, Jen Cloher & Ouch my Face!

"History Eraser" is a track from her first official album "Sometimes I Sit & Think & Sometimes I just Sit". Which is a much stronger album, if you look back off her Double EP released earlier.

I got drunk and fell asleep

atop the sheets

but luckily i left the heater on.

And in my dreams

i wrote the best song that i’ve ever written…

can’t remember how it goes.

I stayed drunk and fell awake

and i was cycling on a plane

and far away i heard you say you liked me. We drifted to a party – cool.

The people went to arty school.

They made their paints

by mixing acid wash and lemonade In my brain I re-arrange the letters on the page to spell your name

Without upping it too much I like to call her the Paul Kelly of my generation, as she's only 3 years older than me! But since most of her songs just gel well & literally take you to a different place.

Here's to a great week ahead!

Cheers Amy
