The weeks seem to be rolling pretty fast & getting just a teensy bit excited but I have quite a few events lined up taking me to the end of the year. Early September I'm seeing comedian Alan Carr with the family at the Sydney Opera House, Mid September I'll be catching Flight Facilities featuring The Sydney Symphony Orchestra (& hopefully special guests!) at The Domain & end of October I'll be seeing The Russian Ballet's "The Nutcracker" with mum. Then early November (& coincidentally the day after Melbourne Cup I fly to Japan for just over two weeks! Then by Christmas I'll have 6 months before I graduate from uni as well! It's all coming up Milhouse!
Well over the past weekend I finally got round to heading to the CD store & for once I was stuck on what to get though finally remembered & bought Babymetal's "Metal Resistance" & Broods latest album "Conscious". I've already listened to Conscious now three times & so far my favourite tracks are "Couldn't Believe", "Free" & "Heartlines".
Also this week between study I've been listening to Dick Diver, Scribe & John Legend. Crazy to believe but in 2005 I actually saw both Scribe & John Legend as they were support acts to the Black Eyed Peas. My bestie Michelle & I got second row from the front & I remember that concert fondly. Between study I've not had much opportunity this past week to work my way through the CD pile.
This week I've decided to take it back to some good o'l fashioned rock. Think messy hair, skinny jeans, guitar riffs & solid drums. Wrap your ears around a favourite of mine below:
Catfish & The Bottlemen are a British indie rock band, formed in Llandudno, Wales in 2007. Funnily enough the band derives its name from Ryan Van McCann's first childhood musical memory: that of an Australian street busker in Sydney, playing beer bottles strung to a wire who goes by the name Catfish the Bottleman. Which is a surprise to me as I've seen Catfish around Market City since I was ever allowed to go to the City as a teenager, in the whole history of seeing him perform near Chinatown & St James Station never did I realise his name was Catfish, he does a mean version of "Inspector Gadget" with Aussie beer bottles. What a legend!
Catfish & The Bottlemen remind me of a mix of The Kooks, The Strokes, The Enemy, The 1975 & The Artic Monkeys & I'm not just mentioning those bands because majority are British but there is some slight similarities.
I bought "The Ride" their second & latest album release a good couple of months ago & have really been digging their tracks after getting more of a chance to listen. I actually really wanted to share their track "Oxygen" with you this week as that has become my ultimate fave from them & surprisingly a diamond in the rough in all of their tracks. But this particular song hasn't been featured as a single nor is it available to listen to online, so I'd just take that as a hint to buy their album ;)
"Soundcheck" is my second favourite track from their album "The Ride", its grungy in all the right places. Hope you enjoy & have a great week!
Cheers Amy
