The Only Place - Best Coast

Now I'm not counting down the days here *ahem* but we have just over 6 weeks of Winter left & then its almost Spring! Though you wouldn't think we are in Winter currently as yesterday was recorded as the warmest day since May! But then there have been many other days & nights where it has been Winter & I wish I brought another cardigan!

Well I started uni beginning of last week & so far so good, for me personally it's just getting back into a routine & keeping everything interesting as well as organised. Whilst studying I've been tackling my way through the CD pile & just in the past week I've listened to The Killers, Thirsty Merc, Queen, Kid Kenobi - Ministry of Sounds, Smashing Pumpkins, Gang of Youths, John Legend, Pendulum, Dick Diver & Broods. Quite a variety with a few blasts from the pasts which is nice & still quite a number of CDs to go!

Now this week's track is favourite of mine & always gets me looking forward to the warmer months ahead. Wrap your ears around it below:

Best Coast is an American rock duo from LA, California that formed in 2009. The band consists of songwriter, guitarist & vocalist Bethany Cosentino & guitarist/multi-instrumentalist Bobb Bruno. "The Only Place" is from their self titled second album released on May 15, 2012 & since then I've been obsessed. Best Coast have been my go to artist for road trips, beach trips anything to do with being outside & in the sun!

Went out Friday night & saw Alex Lahey at Tokyo Sing Song in Newtown. Crazy to believe & I'm sure she agrees but she has been rising in stardom within only the past few months, Alex Lahey has skyrocketed from Triple J unearthed newbie to Triple J Unearthed Feature/Winner & then continuous airplay on Triple J of her tracks "Let's Go Out" & "You Don't Think You Like People Like Me" also landing her a slot on the Splendour in the Grass bill. The band arrived at midnight & played for what seemed an hour to an encouraging & enthusiastic crowd.

The tracks played were songs from her released EP "B-Grade University" which was released on the same day as the gig, so we heard the likes of:

Wes Anderson

Let's Go Out

Ivy League

Llllllleave me alone

You Don't Think You Like People Like Me

The tracks were fun & dancey, some about relationships & one track was about the impending dooms of having an arts degree, songs were rich of storytelling. If she had another gig in a few months time I would definately go & see her again & pay! Looking forward to what the new few months of success will bring to her & hopefully that means an album will soon be in the works too!

So hopefully I've put a little sunshine in your week!

Cheers Amy
