Is it me or has it been a wee bit chilly lately? It's snowing in some parts of Australia at the moment & I can truly admit now that I'm missing Summer lots!
I do like the cold, but I like the cold when I'm snug as a bug in a rug or even still in bed & you can only hear the rain outside. Well for the first time in ages last week, I had the opportunity to blast some CDs out loud at home. Like when you get ready to go out, it's always nice to just put a CD on & dance around the house, I love my headphones but when you have the house to yourself the acoustics are just great & it's much more fun. Well lately I've still been really digging Broods, Catfish & The Bottlemen & Gang of Youths. I managed over the weekend to also check out a live gig. Through a friend, her friend's boyfriends in the band which is now called "Melting Caps" but were recently known as "Flick the Bean". I thought they were very good, there was a cool mix of reggae & rock. If you're all keen to check them out they have a Triple J Unearthed page --> here
This week's track I've been wanting to share for quite a while, but each week another song creeps in & I want to share that first! I've heard this song quite a number of times & I think its just really fun & catchy, check it out below:
Hilltop Hoods are an Australian hip hop group that formed in 1994 in Blackwood Adelaide, South Australia. "1955" was the first single from their most recently released album "Drinking from the Sun, Walking Under Stars Restrung" released at the beginning of this year. The album features symphonic versions of songs from their last two albums but also a bunch of new tracks too. "1955" actually features one of my fave female emerging artists Montaigne who is well known for her track "I'm Not an End", "I'm a Fantastic Wreck" & "Clip My Wings".
Well lets go, lets go We're living in the days when everybody sayin' "What a time to be alive" But I'm feeling out of place like I live in outer space 'Cause it seems I'm stuck in time It's like we ride through life Right in the shadow of the cold war It gets so quiet at night Like martial law took a hold of '55.
It's super catchy & super upbeat, got to be one of my favourite tracks from the hoods. I'm not actually a huge fan as I've never given them a chance but there is definately a few tracks that I surprisingly love and now understand were actually sung by the hoods...give it time! For me when I went through the phase of Aussie Hip Hop (still am there haha) I used to love listening to Seth Sentry, Pez, Illy, 360, Drapht, Hermitude & Tuka. What probably made me enjoy this song even more was hearing the live version. A good couple of weeks ago I was going through quite a stressful part of uni, & one of those nights Triple J had the recording of the hoods on over the Wireless of their massive gig in Melbourne. Hearing 1955 live I think was the best track I've heard live over the radio in a while, so it's stuck to me since.
Hope you enjoy it as much as I do! Have a great week!
Cheers Amy
