So I'm starting to get a teensy bit excited as next week it will be my birthday; I'll be 26. I must admit these months have just been rolling on past & only slightly do I feel like my birthday is creeping up. I guess Uni has definately been a major priority & my largest distraction but also on a positive I'm also getting closer to finishing this semester. Looking back at the past year that I've had it's been great, I've been able to work full time, study full time & even squeeze in a road tripping holiday to the USA, spent days/ nights off with the family & friends I love. I've been very lucky to say the least & look forward to what this year of "26" will bring.
This past week I've been listening to a variety of artists; Fleetwood Mac, Gang of Youths, Franz Ferdinand, The Killers, Matt Corby & Glasvegas. I also finally last Tuesday night got the chance to see Matt Corby perform live at the Enmore Theatre. Firstly I'm glad that he didn't perform a few weeks ago, it's important for artists to take their rest & put their health first. With knowledge of Matt Corby's raspy & deep tone it was necessary that he didn't perform when sick, as I believe it probably wouldn't be as good as the show had been. I was mesmerized also by the variety of styles Matt Corby brought to the table he was sultry, gentle, soothing & soulful. Surprise fact about Matt Corby he can also play a pretty mean flute! As I was getting wrapped up in all his newer songs, I got a nice surprise when Matt sung his older track "Resolution" (either I had forgotten at the time that he wrote it or I had forgotten how much this song really meant to me) anyway I squeed & just had to keep this recording all for myself. Check it out below:
*cue goosebumps*
To end the working week, last week my friend Celina & I went out for dinner & then decided to have a few wines at the Hero of Waterloo at the Rocks. I haven't been to the Hero of Waterloo in just under a year but every time I go, I always have a wonderful time. It's one of Sydney's oldest pubs & was introduced to me by a friend a couple of years ago. Friday & Saturday nights they have an in house band, who play golden oldies & put a new spin on newer songs to a fun loving bunch of pub goers. We both had a good ol sing song, & they did a wonderful cover of Royals by Lorde. Cool fact but at the end of the gig the main guitarist walked around the pub & cheered everyone for watching the show. When he got talking to us he mentioned to me that he could tell I was a music lover & asked if I was a musician myself. I told him that when I was close to finishing uni that I wanted to learn electric guitar & he mentioned "well you've got the soul for it, I could see you watching my fingers as I played, it shows you have the heart for it too" Absolutely wicked, what a compliment! Well enough about me this week's track is a track I've been spinning between work & uni & every time I listen to it I fall in love with it over again, check it out below:
Gang of Youths is a four-piece band from Sydney that record under Mosy Recordings. Starting out in 2012, guitarist Joji Malani, bass player Max Dunn and guitar/keys man Jung Kim spun most of their early demos through FBi radio. Most of the songs from latest album "The Positions" were inspired from being in a relationship with someone whom was terminally ill. Each track on the album is raw, touching & truly a surreal feeling. Now you're probably thinking you've heard me talk about Gang of Youths before & this is actually the first post where I will artist double up; Gang of Youths are totally kickass!
"Magnolia" has lately become an ultimate fave of mine. It just has the right combo of chaos & calm. It has me toe tapping but it also gives me an overwhelming sense of wanting to be there too. To dance along the street & cause a bit of a ruck ass.
Hope it ignites that chaos within you too, have a great week!
Cheers Amy
