It's gonna be May! Well can you believe it, but it's already that time of the year! May means we are one month away from Winter (Brrr) , it also means I'm one month away from finishing another semester (yay uni holidays). But we are also in the busy birthday month for myself, Meghan & Mum. I've literally got two weeks to go from now, can't wrap my head around it!! Well this past week has been a rocky one, & by rocky I mean Rock n Roll baby! In the past week I've been listening to Buddy Holly, Thirsty Merc, Franz Ferdinand, Courtney Barnett, Cut off Your Hands & also quite a bit of Queen. As an early birthday present to the family together we saw on Friday night "We Will Rock You" the musical at the Lyric Theatre & it was absolutely hands down amazing! I won't give too much away at all, but definately if you get the chance go please see it! Then on Saturday night I topped off the week with more Rock n Roll by heading to Vasco Bar in Surry Hills. As amazing news my bestie Meghan & her partner Matt are now engaged! We also celebrated Matt's birthday on the night, so we belted out Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody, The Offspring's Self Esteem & Oasis's Champagne Supernova & it was a grand night full of singing & celebration. Vasco is a little rock n roll dig bar on Cleveland Street, with an Italian twist, a drum kit on the bar & sheet music lining the walls of the bathroom, its quite a rocking place! It's also well known for its cocktails & bar food so I tried what I believe to be the best gnocchi I have ever ever had (big call, but it's true!)
Went to JB-HI FI last week & purchased Frightened Rabbits new album "Painting of a Panic Attack" which was released only just recently. Also I finally found the Franz Ferdinand CD "Right Thoughts, Right Words, Right Action" that in fact wasn't in mines or neither dads collection. Dad also hit the shops last week & got me Yelle's first album "Pop Up", Cut Copy's first album "Bright Like Neon Love" which I surprisingly didn't have in my collection & to try something new Dad got me Glaswegian Indie Band Glasvegas's first album self titled "Glasvegas". This week I also finally get to see Matt Corby at the Enmore Theatre perform his rescheduled show, so next week I should have a gig report!
For this week's track I've decided to take it back to when I was in school, this track followed me through highschool & is still a favourite to this day. You can wrap your ears around it below, don't forget to turn it up loud!
"Smile Like You Mean It" is a favourite hit of mine from American Rock Band The Killers. This song was released in 2004 & I have strong memories of singing this song on repeat in Year 9 Sport Science class. Actually most of the Hot Fuss album was sung out loud regularly. It's just a little mad to believe that this song is 12 years old now & still a favourite of mine.
Looking back at sunsets on the East side We lost track of the time Dreams aren't what they used to be Some things sat by so carelessly
I've always believed the lyrics are about growing up & time passing by, which was perfect timing as this song came out when I was a teenager. There will be a time in our lives when we look back to when we were at school & just think about how much has changed since then. At the time this song came out, we were at an age where we still could figure out the best way to grow up. This song definately creates a nostalgia trip & looking back to that time so much has been achieved since then.
Hope you all have a great week!
Cheers Amy
