Isn't today's weather just the kind of weather you'd like to stay in bed & watch movies to? I'll be honest & say that I'm still adjusting to the wet days, the cooler mornings & darker evenings. But I can never seem to make up my mind, I either want a really sunny day or an excuse to rock a woolly jumper. Mad to believe that we are also even halfway through April & I'm halfway through my uni semester (seriously where is this year going?!) my birthday is now just under a month away.
I was hoping this week to present to you all my gig report for Matt Corby at the Enmore theatre, but due to illness Matt Corby cancelled his show about 3 minutes before he was due to appear on stage. I was lucky to still see the support act Vera Blue, who actually was Celia Pavey a previous contestant on the Voice under team Delta & her voice was just folky goodness. On the night I recognised her song "Hold" & now will be researching what other tracks she has. It was a shame that Matt Corby was sick, but musicians have such an important instrument & when sick you just have to go with the flow to not make things worse. He has rescheduled the show for the 4th May, so I intend to check him out again soon.
Well last week was also the wildly anticipated lineup release for Splendour in the Grass & boy did they bring out the big guns boasting a stack of amazing artists such as The Strokes, The Cure, Flume, The Avalanches, Courtney Barnett, Sigor Ros, Matt Corby, Golden Features, DMAs, The Preatures, Sticky Fingers, Urthboy, Jess Kent & so so so many more! I'm in two minds about going, & its leaning more towards no as I just can't justify why Australian camping Festivals have to be close to $400 & it's not even included the price additional to camping. My mentality is that there are so many festivals over the seas & around the world that are a whole lot cheaper & have a larger line up to boast as well. Plus it is still in the works but I'm saving up for a trip to Japan in November & also I've treated myself a ticket to Curve Ball at Carriageworks on the 11th June to celebrate the end of my semester with a boogie. (Line up boasts ZHU, Cosmos Midnight, Basenji & Joy & for only $80!)
This week's track is slice of synth dream, it will take you back a few decades that's for sure. Put on your dancing shoes, pull out your shoulder pads & synth keyboard & check it out below!
Stage name St. Lucia; Jean-Philip Grobler is a South African-born, Brooklyn-based musician. St. Lucia spent much of his childhood singing in The Drakensberg Boys' Choir which travelled & performed internationally. This artist & band is so wonderfully 80's, he has encaptured the decade's sound to an absolute T. Full of synth & dance qualities, this track will make you shimmie your shoulders & tap your feet.
When I first heard of St. Lucia it was 2013 & I've been hooked to his song "September" since. It was actually only a week or two ago that I finally got around to purchasing his album "Matter" (2016) & "When the Night" (2013).
St. Lucia released the track "Dancing On Glass" in October 2015, & its music video in November 2015. "Dancing on Glass" was strikingly one of the first tracks on his album "Matter" that got me up & dancing. Hopefully this track puts some sunshine & good times in your day today.
Cheers Amy
