Can you believe that for now nearly 7 months I have been writing this music blog! What started out to be only a speck of my imagination & "What if" has now been turned into something I really enjoy discussing each week. Music; music is amazing & I don't know where I would be without it. Well it's been quite a musical week for me, last week I went to JB HI FI as a treat yo self & ended up doing what I do best. I walked out of JB with completely different CDs than intended. Unfortunately when I went to JB they had sold out of Urthboy so I had a little look around & instead I purchased two St Lucia albums (after all these years of being obsessed & dancing to his track "September") I purchased "When the Night" 2013 & the newest album "Matter" 2016. I must admit I'm really digging the new album & especially loving the track "Dancing on Glass" St Lucia really hits those 80's & Pet Shop Boy vibes. Dad also for my music homework this week has lent me Paul Weller's "Hit Parade" which is a selection of various tracks from his time in The Jam, The Style Council & his solo career. Funnily enough I believe The Jam have returned to Australia round this time for another small tour. Me & the family got a chance to see The Jam at the Factory Theatre last year & they were absolutely brilliant, they still sounded the same even without having Paul Weller there.
Since it wasn't available at JB I ended up purchasing Urthboy's newest album "The Past Beats Inside Me Like a Second Heartbeat" last week direct from the Elefant Traks website. Wonderfully the CD came in yesterday, along with that I purchased a neat shirt that lists all the artists within Elefant Traks on it. I had my first listen of the album last night & I'll tell ya I got goosebumps, especially from the song "Long Hard Hours" that really hit home for me.
I also purchased on another trip to the shops the newest collaboration CD between Franz Ferdinand & Sparks (F.F.S) I've always been aware of their joint project from the beginning of last year but never thought to buy their CD in fear that it might change how I feel towards Franz Ferdinand in general. Apparently they've been wanting to team up for the past 10 years & now this creative endeavour has placed both bands into a higher force. I must admit now, I'm really enjoying the creative influence of both bands.
Well for the past few weeks this week's track has been hanging in the back of my mind, only briefly I'll be typing away at work & studying at home & then a lyric will just pop into my head & I'm stuck. Check it out here:
The first time I heard this track, it was quite a number of weeks ago & both Zara & MNEK were featured on the Ellen Show. This song gave me similar emotions to that of "Where Are Ü Now? by Jack Ü feat. Skrillex Diplo & Justin Bieber" Maybe even a lighter form of dubstep, it's the kind of song that just gets you swaying as you keep up with the snare.
Both singers are from different countries Zara Larsson is from Sweden & MNEK is from the UK. "Never Forget You" was released mid last year & has already racked up over 85 million views on Youtube.
The music video is absolutely gorgeous, reminded me of "Where the Wild Things are". It features a girl who meets a creature, or, makes up an imaginary friend. Throughout the music video the girl grows up & is always thinking about spending time with the creature. Turns out most of the video was filmed in Iceland (no wonder the stunning & mystical surroundings).
Also exciting news but tonight I'll be seeing Matt Corby at the Enmore Theatre, this will be my first time seeing him live. From the early recordings he made during Australian Idol in 2007, & then releasing a single here & there over the year. Just a few weeks ago I purchased his album "Telluric" & tonight will get a glimpse of hearing it live. Can't wait!
Hope you guys love this week's as much as I do, have a great week! Cheers Amy
