Well how nice was it having an extra long weekend! I spent most of it in bed & it was truly egg-ceptional! (See what I did there ;)) Hope that you all had a wonderful Easter & a nice long weekend break. Decided this time round to stay in Sydney, so my Easter consisted of lots of snacking, coffee, chocolate, family & numerous episodes of the O.C!
I did my best to avoid the shops except the local cafe, & for the past two weeks have been giving myself a slight hiatus from visiting JB Hi Fi which is essentially helping me to save some more pennies! It won't last too long though, as I know this week there are quite a couple of CDs I would like to get.
This past week I've been listening to the new songs from Ladyhawke (still on a high from her live & intimate gig last week!), Courtney Barnett (Always a study fave), Illy & also quite a bit of Motown/ Hip Hop. I go between moments where it's dance or hip hop & lately I've found myself delving back to some of my old favourites.
This week's song comes from an album I'll most definately be purchasing this week, three years in the making & he's back!
Urthboy also known as Tim Levinson is an Australian hip-hop MC from Sydney, NSW. He is widely known for his solo music, being A founding member of "The Herd" & also as the co-founding & manager of The Elefant Traks record label. I remember hearing of Urthboy when his track "We Get Around" was released in 2007. Since then most if not all artists from Elefant Traks I have had my experience in listening/getting obsessed to. Elefant Traks is a collaboration record label for most well known Australian Hip Hop artists eg. names such as Hermitude, The Tongue, The Herd, Horrorshow, Joelistics & Jimblah.
"Second Heartbeat" is the first single from his fifth solo album "The Past Beats Inside Me Like A Second Heartbeat" which was only just released within this month. A couple of years ago I went to a Graphic Festival at the Sydney Opera House & got to see Urthboy at "Dr Seuss vs Elefant Traks", I was even lucky to score an autograph!
After only hearing this single (a few dozen times now), I look forward to hearing the rest of his new album in which he has collaborated with the likes of Hermitude, Countbounce, Montaigne & Bertie Blackman. After over three years since his last album "Smokey's Haunt" in 2012 it's definately a welcome return for new material!
Cheers Amy
