Well its been a great start to Autumn, with days up to 26 degrees & other days with lots of rain, I guess we can say now that Autumn is officially here. The cool winds are setting in & yesterday I even had my woolly jumper on to see me through the day! I also started another semester of uni last week & was introduced to two new subjects so should be an interesting few months ahead!
Between uni & work, lady luck must have been on my side. After hearing early last week that Ladyhawke has returned after 4 years from being on hiatus. With the added bonus that she has returned on the scene to release an album later this year titled "Wild Things". Being the dedicated subscriber to many mailing lists, an email competition was released to Ladyhawke fans. Tied to one of her newest singles "A Love Song" the competition involved having to send through your favourite love song of all time. I decided to go with "Bein Around - The Lemonheads", a song which I came across at the beginning of last year this song thanks to Courtney Barnett & originally from the Lemonheads as amazing. By Thursday morning the results were released & I received an email saying I won a double pass! The secret gig I can now reveal was at the Newtown Social Club last night & the crowd would at least have been less than 60 people, such a magical thing to be a part of! I took my bestie Shell along with me for the gig & the wonderful human scored me front row & the set list too!
It was an absolute privilege to see one of my all time favourite artists live & up close. For this week's track, it's my favourite track from the night below
Ladyhawke; also known as Pip Brown is a singer-songwriter/multi-instrumentalist from New Zealand. I became aware of Ladyhawke in 2007 as the vocalist in PNAU's track "Embrace" (listen to it here) & since then I've been hooked to her voice & music style.
Sweet Fascination is one of the two special sneak peek singles that were released only two weeks ago from her new album "Wild Things" that will be out in June. Out of the two songs, this one drew to me the most. Its got the right mix of synth to get you bopping & clapping. Her voice echos throughout & it just goes amazingly well. Gave me a bit of a CHVRCHES vibe as well.
Her debut album & self titled album "Ladyhawke" was released in 2008 through Modular Recordings. Modular Recordings in 2008 had other artists signed such as Tame Impala, Van She, Cut Copy, The Presets, Klaxons & Sneaky Sound System just to name a few. At the ARIA Music Awards in 2009, Ladyhawke won Breakthrough Artist in both album & single categories. Her second album "Anxiety" was released in May 2012.
She is well known for "Paris is Burning", "Magic" & "My Delirium", this year on June 3rd precisely she will release her third album "Wild Things" which was actually written & recorded in LA with producer & friend Tommy English.
So far the newest track which I heard for the first time last night was "Let it Roll" which seems to go nicely with the synth glam rock style that her newer album brings. Especially I felt so far as well in "A Love Song". After the little sampler last night I look forward to listening to the rest of her album.
