To think we are now in February! The month of lurrrveee & crazily enough the last month of Summer! It's also mad to think that I've been writing this music blog each week for nearly 5 months too! Woohoo here's to many more months & years ahead!
Well this past week has been more musical than usual as I've bought a couple of CDs to help me through my study (You can only guess that I've reached that point of the semester where uni exams are getting closer & closer) One of my latest artist obsessions is BØRNS, a gent from LA who has a voice of velvet, I heard his song "Electric Love" on Triple J last week & since then I've been hooked. I bought his album "Dopamine" & am absolutely loving his other tracks especially "10 000 Emerald Pools". The other CDs I purchased were Fraser A.Gorman's "Slow Gum" which was a CD I've been meaning to sought after for a while (A few months ago I saw his intimate in-store performance launching "Slow Gum" at Red Eye Records but was too shy to buy it there on the spot) & my last CD purchase was the anticipated 2nd album of RÜFÜS "Bloom" which has already got me dancing & loving "You Were Right" & "Like an Animal".
Round this time last week was also the "Triple J Hottest 100" & I can now reveal what songs I voted for; with indicated numbers as to how they went between the 1-100 & 101-200 countdowns.
Alpine - Damn Baby (132) Chvrches - Never Ending Circles
Courtney Barnett - Depreston (82)
Dick Diver - Tearing the Posters Down
DMAs - Lay Down (77)
Fraser A.Gorman - Shiny Gun
Hayden James - Something About You (44)
Hermitude - The Buzz (ft. Mataya/ Young Tapz) (8)
Tkay Maidza - M.O.B (66)
Tuka - Big Jet Plane feat. Thelma Plum (Triple J Like a Version) (81)
What was nice to see was the increased amount of Triple J Unearthed artists & all Australian artists being prominent too. aussie aussie aussie!
Another exciting thing that will be happening is Laneway Festival this weekend! I'm so pumped for a great day ahead! Between all this study Laneway is a just slight glimpse of what fun lies ahead. Laneway Festival is hands down the best boutique festival in Sydney; good music, easy going crowd, lots of toilets, stages close by/ no clashes, markets/record pop up/autograph tent & a large variety of food options. This week's track is inspired by one of the artists I'll be seeing this weekend, prepare for goosebumps.
There was no light and I swear
We sat still in our fear
Make a ladder of what folds
And climb up in the air
You push and you pull and you tell yourself no
It's like when you lie down, the veins grow in slow
You push and you pull but you'd never know
I crept up in you and I wouldn't let go
Purity Ring is a Canadian electronic music duo formed in 2010 and originally from Edmonton. One of the first songs I heard from Purity Ring was "Fineshrine" & I've had goosebumps ever since. "Push Pull" was released as the first single from the album "Another Eternity" late 2014. Purity Ring have many songs that give me goosebumps & one of my other fave tracks at the moment from them is "Begin Again" (click here) Absolutely cannot wait! Cheers Amy
