Discipline - Club Cheval

Sometimes there are songs that just grab you instantly, it could be the first guitar riff, the first few lyrics you hear or a simple beat that just plays over & over in your head for days. You get a rush, goosebumps all over & the hairs on your neck stand up, instantly an elated feeling runs through your body & then you get the sudden urge to sing or dance. When you finally figure out who created the track its pure joy, whether its from sourcing the lyrics, being quick enough to Shazam it or to go with your gut & be your own Shazam we find a way to quench the thirst. We as humans don't realise but our eyes & ears are always on the look for something that will give us the feeling of ultimate fulfillment. We have so many wants & needs in life, when each of those are fulfilled we get closer to self-actualisation.

We are music explorers & finding a new song opens a whole world of other songs, other artists & other genres. Usually at first, many songs fly under the radar until the right one for you comes along. Sometimes at first a particular song doesn't phase you too much until you've heard it a few times & other songs as soon you hear it you're hooked.

This draws me to this weeks track, in the few weeks leading up to Christmas I heard this song for the first time in the early hours of waking up & listening to breakfast radio. Being half asleep at that time of the day (guilty of pressing snooze!) I could barely make out the lyrics but the beat hooked me in & I was humming a small part of it for the rest of the week.

Get your dancing shoes on & listen to it below:

I waited patiently & last Tuesday morning I got a proper chance to hear this track in full & as soon as it came on I jumped out of bed, turned it up & shimmied. I managed to track down the artist & the song title & since then I've been listening to it lots!

Club Cheval is a 4 piece electronic music supergroup originating from Lille in the North of France. French music; especially French dance music has always played an integral part of my growing love for dance music over the years. With artists such as Justice, Busy P, Yelle, SebAstian, Yuksek, Uffie, Surkin, Breakbot, 2 Many Djs, Etienne De Crecy, Daft Punk, Mr Oizo, Kavinsky & many many more. I've always had this feeling since early 2006 that the French were years ahead of us with dance music. The reasoned conclusion I've come up with is the french just make everything so damn cool. I remember in the last two years of highschool cutting newspaper & magazine clippings from music magazines such as "The Drum Media", "The Brag" & "3D World" to stick up on my collage wall. Myspace was also a great platform for me in finding more artists across the seas.

Released in September 2015 "Discipline" is Club Cheval's second EP from their much anticipated same album title "Discipline". What drew me to this song, was the strong mix of house music & R&B. The singer in this track, Phlo Finister; an R&B singer from Los Angeles reminded me so much of Usher, Ne-Yo, Chris Brown, Drake and/or other rnb artists. Going through school I was never really too big on RnB but there is a couple of old school RnB tracks that I hear now which takes me on a nostalgia trip. It wasn't until 2008 that I learnt from countless nights out dancing at The Eastern with Meghan & Celina that I appreciated RnB music so much more. "Discipline" being a track that mixes RnB with house music it resonated with me greatly & I found the track to be super catchy.

Club cheval's debut album is named "Discipline" & has been announced for release in early 2016. For this track to be my first favourite song of 2016 & with an anticipated album close on the way, this may be something I'll need to keep a look out for in the shops!

Cheers Amy
