Yes we've made it! Spring is officially outta here & Summer is here to stay!
"Take me back to the sweet times, the hot nights
Everything is gonna be alright, In the summertime
Baby, in the summertime
And even if I have to wait til next year
I don't care, All I know is that I'll meet you there
In the summertime, Baby, in the summertime
That is where I'll be"
Still one of my favourite tracks from Thirsty Merc after all these years & it's hard to believe this song is now 10 years old! Crazy how this song still resonates true for me around this time of year! There's just something exciting about Summer that we all cling onto during the winter months. Summer signifies hope, warmth & a sense of brighter days ahead (You can listen to "In the Summertime" here)
The flowers have blossomed, jacaranda trees have blanketed a lovely hue of violet across Sydney town, the days are getting hotter, the nights are getting sticky & I'm finally able to have a swim after work! It also seems hard to believe that we are now officially 3 weeks away from Christmas! Today the Christmas decorations will be going up at work & soon enough the Christmas carols will be played in prep for the festive season. (Still need to do my Christmas shopping!)
In the final week of Spring I've had quite the musical week, Tuesday night I listened to the Queen platinium collection to commemorate the loss of music legend Freddie Mercury, Wednesday night I saw Cats the Musical with the fam, Thursday night I watched the ARIA Music Awards & on the weekend I went to Stereosonic & got my dance on. In between all that I also had an essay that was due yesterday & you'll be pleased to know that the essay is outta here too! Cats the musical was really good, although at first a little hard for me to understand the storyline, but soon enough it all made sense. Delta Goodrem who played the role of "Grisabella" did a fantastic rendition of "Memories" that left me with a wee tear in my eye (her vocal range truly is remarkable). Then on Saturday a small crew of us went to Stereosonic & it was on a whole other level. I guess it's been a couple of years since my last Stereo, as I finding myself favouring the smaller, park-friendly festivals like Parklife & Laneway Fest. So it was a refreshing change to just ease into heading to Olympic Park. We held a wee pre party at my house before heading in, there were drinks, dips & brie, Dave even brought his decks & spun out a mini stereo set for Shell & I - awesome! Shell & I also decided to deck ourselves in metallic temporary tattoos & after a few drinks we were then ready to go! Every year Stereosonic signifies the start of the summer music festival season, though not wanting to sound over it already. Times have definately changed, the crowd has changed & I felt more as though people have lost the true reason of being there; for the music. To be honest you & I both know it happens, people are searching for that mind blowing high but I have never seen so many munted people in one place as I did there. I've had my share of munters but nothing on the scale of this. Left, right & centre there was a strong mix of muscles, mid-strength drinks, violence & pingers. Not to put it down entirely though, I managed to tick a couple of DJs off my to see list. First up was Andrew Bayer who played a flawless set followed by some deep house from Tchami (who is actually a previous blog entry!) then Duke Dumont, Axwell & Ingrosso before ending the night with Armin Van Buuren so overally I had quite a good day!
This weeks track to take us into Summer is from a band that I just keep running back to. You can wrap your eyes & ears around it below:
Gang of Youths is a four-piece band from Sydney that record under Mosy Recordings. Starting out in 2012, guitarist Joji Malani, bass player Max Dunn and guitar/keys man Jung Kim spun most of their early demos through FBi radio. Mid 2013 Gang of Youths released their first single "Evangelists" which once aired on Triple J helped to sign them up with Sony Music Australia. Most of the songs from "The Positions" were inspired from being in a relationship with someone whom was terminally ill. Each track on the album is raw, touching & truly a surreal feeling. "Benevolence Riots" was actually a single released in 2014 before their debut record "The Positions" was released this year & is an ultimate fave of mine.
"Ready for anything, ready or not It's a silence That wiggles away my pride and you're asking me why do I feel it Like it's a guy with a cigarette that tells me to lie face down"
Happy Summer guys!
Cheers Amy
