Can you believe that we are almost halfway through Spring already! The mornings are getting warmer & brighter, & the days are lasting longer. Flowers are blooming, knees & legs are slowly exposing themselves, sunglasses are out & all the pretty dresses can now come out of hiding from my wardrobe! It's such a nice feeling to come home from work & to still have the sun out shining! I'm already starting to feel like there is so much more time on my hands to achieve things & luckily for me the weekends have had great sunny weather also.
With the added bonus of being on uni holidays (yes!) for the past few weeks my favourite thing to do so far is to just sit out on the balcony with a book &/or a CD whirring in the background. It's been lovely so far, I've caught up with a few friends, caught up on some much needed sleep (reignited my lost love with naps) , currently working through my need-to-watch DVD pile & I've also celebrated my tiny freedom with a couple of bevvies & laughs! I'm just making sure that I take in this break, put my feet up & take my mind off uni for a bit. I've not made any CD purchases in the past week, I've given myself time to just listen through all of my purchases as well as some old favourites. I've been listening between Leon Bridges, Disclosure, Chvrches, Dick Diver, The Jam, Old Man River & Laura Marling. Just over the past weekend, I listened to three of Laura Marlings albums in full (Alas..I Cannot Swim, A Creature I Don't Know & Short Movie) to get me excited for her gig thats on at the Enmore tonight. I was lucky in 2010 at Woodford Splendour in the Grass to see her perform, so to now see a more intimate show (& more years of experience under her belt) should be wonderful.
In inspiration for this weeks track its tied to one my favourite things to do lately during uni holidays.
Sitting in the morning sun,
sitting in the morning sun,
my thoughts they drift away with you
DMA's are three fellas from Newtown in Sydney. The three fellas Tommy, Mason & Johnny (SMALL WORLD news flash! But Johnny was recently the lead singer of Little Bastard before DMAs were together) were signed to I OH YOU Records early last year. Having toured recently to the US & Europe their alternative sound has skyrocketed & still at first thought inspires me to believe they are a reincarnate Late 80s/early 90s British Alternative Rock eg; Oasis, Stone Roses, The Verve & Travis. I fell in love with their song "Delete" which came out mid-early last year (you can listen here), & since then they have released a couple more jangly songs. I was quite lucky to see them perform at Falls Festival at the beginning of this year & since then they have been prepping for their debut album that still has no title or release date. "Lay Down" is the first teaser of their debut album & once again I've fallen in love. This tune & included guitar rifts has been bopping in my head since its release early October & around this time last week, the official video for this track (above) was released. This song just has a great energy about it, it wants you to get up & rock out. I anticipate their debut album, but for now I'll just have to sit out & wait to see them again at Laneway Festival early next year!
Cheers Amy
