The grass is surely greener on the other side, & after many weeks of sunny weekends being wasted inside studying...the sunshine & fresh air is mine at last! Last Thursday I had my one & only exam for the semester & now thats all complete I'm one happy cookie!
After quite a studious long weekend, I decided to still go to work Tuesday/ Wednesday to give my brain a break. By Wednesday, you guessed it I could already start to feel the tension & by this point I just wanted the exam to be over. To ease the exam stress a little I treated myself the night before my exam with a quick stop to the CD store. On this trip I bought three cds; Leon Bridges debut album "Coming Home" whose voice just croons me back in time & if it wasn't for my mate Leia I wouldn't have heard his highly anticipated track "Coming Home", second CD bought was Disclosure's much anticipated second album "Caracal" that includes collabs with Lorde, Sam Smith & The Weeknd then lucky last my third cd purchase was Little Bastard's "Little Bastard" an Australian mighty 7 piece punk-string band (who were on the pub circuit before finally making a CD last year). Due to the closeness to my exam, I found myself listening to quiet tracks, songs that didn't require too much singing along to as my brain was trying to retain more crucial information! Though I came across a funny fact last week that just rang true, isn't it funny that we can learn all these lyrics to different songs, yet when we test ourselves to remember something we had studied, it just seems more difficult to retain.
Once my exam was complete, I felt an absolute wash of relief & tiredness rolled into one. I treated myself to a coffee, sushi train & then a walk around the shops in the city before heading home. Once home I spun Leon Bridge's album "Coming Home" in full & by the end of the CD I was truly ready for a well deserved nap.
This week's track is a big up favourite & the perfect song to celebrate the end of a uni semester! When me & my bestie Sheridan were roadtripping in the USA this song became our trip song. THIS BECAME OUR JAM. We would be winding through highways & passing small towns & no matter where we were, waiting at traffic lights, stuck in highway traffic, stuck in immense desert heat; we were dancing in the front seats of the van. There would be many days we would be up bright & early & this would on some days be the first track we played to pump us up. You can wrap your ears around it here:
Tkay Maidza is a pocket rocket & one to watch! She's only 19 & already in a few years she has produced a number of songs. The first time I heard Tkay was through her song "Brontosaurus" in 2013. As an avid lover of dinosaurs this track had punch as soon as I heard it "Stomp your feet! stomp your feet! stomp your feet like a Brontosaurus!" simple yet so catchy. Her raps & rhymes are rapidly fast, & any attempt to mimic her singing will leave you in spits. You can listen to Brontosaurus by clicking >> here.
M.O.B. is such a badass track, listening to the lyrics what rings true for me, is someone who works hard & earns is clearly much better than someone who doesn't do much/ is broke. An individual who works hard for what they want, is something extremely attractive. To have a passion is what life is all about. Tkay in her young age has worked hard, is in the zone & is gonna show all those broke bitches this is how its done! This for me is inspiration to also kick arse & work hard now, so I can relax alot more later in life.
At the beginning of the year I was lucky to see Tkay Maidza perform at Laneway Festival as she was given the opportunity to step in last minute when Lykke Li pulled out. The festival gods & fashion stars encouraged me that day to wear my "Dinosaurs are badass" shirt so to stomp in my metallic boots & dino top to Brontosaurus dreams were made that day. As her festival debut was an absolutely incredible performance & EXACTLY the foundation of why she is becoming the one to watch in the music industry.
Cheers Amy
