So I'm in my final week of the uni semester which is fan-dabby-dozy, but like always the final week feels like the calm just before the storm. I'd like to believe that I'm a pretty organised person but usually in-between all that I'm just fidgety. I don't mean to let emotions get the better of me but when you invest 11 weeks of your nights & weekends (ok ok minus the 4 weeks holiday I took to the USA) all you want ever so truly is to go into that exam room & kick arse! Next Thursday I have my 3 hour exam & then I'm free as a bird till November (yay!) where I'll be definately indulging in many movies, bed days, nights out, coffee, cider, books & friends, oh & wine!
Musically alot has been going on for me in the past week, besides sharing my love for Tchami & lightning. I found out quite excitedly last Wednesday night that me & my work mate Dave were heading to Above & Beyond's sold out show on Saturday Night. Earlier on that same day I purchased 2 tickets to go see English darling Laura Marling in October later this year & then on Friday using my mums visa card (connectionz) I was able to access the presale for Laneway Festival for February next year (Chvrches! Purity Ring! Violent Soho! Beach House! Big Scary! Grimes! Shamir! The Smith Street Band!) Luckily for me the music gods chose a week that I got paid, cause you got that right..I'm slightly broke now.
As I mentioned in my first post, I'm quite the dabbler when it comes to the variety of genres. Certain moods will trigger what music will course through my veins the fastest & I tend to go with how I feel at the time. A few months ago I had my work mate Dave tell me about Above & Beyond touring but round the same time the tickets sold out within minutes. I had a couple of their remixes on my playlist but had never took the opportunity to embrace them entirely; let alone delve deeper into the genre of Trance. Who knows but I probably have a good couple of tracks on my playlist that I had no idea were considered trance but are. To entirely sum up trance for me personally I see it as slightly poetic. I find that it's a genre I can easily study to & best of all just chill with it & a book.
As the months have past I've had more & more of an opportunity to listen to Above & Beyond, even through the disappointment of the tickets selling out so quickly there was even a discussion of holding a streaming house party. Luck struck last week, so at the very last minute we managed to get 2 tickets & it was just awesome. What I liked in a nutshell about Saturday night was the comraderie, Trance is all about sharing those good feelings, sharing the endorphins around, people around you become your trance family for the night & it's about being there in that moment & nowhere else. We all danced hard & we all danced together. The only word that can explain that night truly is "euphoric", as I felt so happy to be there in that moment that at a few times in the night I cried happy tears.
That my dears is what music is all about.

Last Friday, Jen & I were walking to the Met Centre to grab a few items during our lunch where I came across this weeks music share. I'll admit up front that I've got a slight crush on Sam Smith (his voice could melt butter), Though I'm being realistic as there's no way he's going to fancy me. The crush for Sam Smith started long before in 2012 when I fell deeply for "Latch feat. Sam Smith - Disclosure" I still remember when that song first came out, it gave me goosebumps. It's purely about love in its rawness, the love of meeting someone new & exciting, the thrill of the chase, stealing glances & that feeling of "What If". Or saying it like it is just a bunch of good looking peeps making out. (You can listen to Latch here)
This will always & forever be my favourite verse in any song:
I’m so encaptured, got me wrapped up in your touch
Feel so enamored, hold me tight within your clutch
How do you do it, you got me losing every breath
What did you give me to make my heart bleed out my chest
& then yippee, 3 years later & my favourite trio have got back together to collab & it's a beaut, cue more goosebumps:
"Omen" is a song by English electronic duo Disclosure featuring vocals from Sam Smith & was released earlier this year on 27th July under Island Records. Following the worldwide success of their album Settle and a worldwide tour, the duo began working on their upcoming album Caracal, featuring vocals from Sam Smith, Lorde, Gregory Porter, among others (Wikipedia 2015) What strikes me the most about this song is once again how intimate the songs are & how they make you feel; raw. When Sam Smith & Disclosure get together they seem to be embodied always by the sense of touch. Throughout the music video there are lots of hands on faces & close ups of sensual kissing. Fear is nowhere present.
My mind would rule my heart
I didn't pay attention to the light in the dark
It left me torn apart
But now I see your tears are an omen
Once again the boys have pulled off another super sexy track that definately had me dancing & shoulder shaking through the Met Centre last week & now hopefully into the rest of Spring.
Cheers Amy
