The best thing I've learnt about music is everybody has a favourite. There are billions of songs out there old and new to choose from, and I'm sure there is at least one song out there that is liked or even loved. Whatever song this is, it's usually tucked away somewhere for a rainy/sunny day. It's a song suitable for cheering you up when you're down, brings out your inner gangsta, makes you dance on the spot, gets you motivated/out of bed or even explains exactly how you feel at that moment in time, a song you always pick for karoake or a song thats always on your party playlist or roadtrip playlist no matter where you're off to and most likely its a song that you've played thousands of times and could never ever ever get sick of.
A highlight for me when I'm listening to music is when I put my whole entire playlist on shuffle. Sometimes you just need a break from playing your recently added and need to take a long look back. It's kind of like taking a step back at a gallery and viewing the whole canvas that is a musical tapestry that you've personally woven by feel good memories. There is always a song from the past, that you listened to way too much and eventually when it comes back up on shuffle you forget just how much you missed it and how it made you feel. For me this week it was definately this (click here)
For the past week I've found myself delving slightly into the past; I was listening to Fleetwood Mac's Greatest Hits. My dad who is actually one of my biggest musical influences tries to give me a new CD to listen to every few weeks or so. I love this dearly cause Dad has the greatest music collection and can always find an artist to balance with the newer artists that I listen to. Just like getting mail in the letterbox, I find a new CD to borrow on the end of my bed and generally as soon as I get it, it's played that night whilst I study. In between Fleetwood Mac I've been blasting "House Every Weekend" by David Zowie and then it struck me like lightning what song I would next love to share.
"Promesses" by Tchami feat. Kaleem Taylor is basically a song I heard by fluke, one Saturday night a few months ago I had the whole house to myself. I made dinner and poured a glass of wine (oh so romantic) and settled in on the couch after a big day of going through uni work. Usually if I get the house to myself, I take full advantage of a free tv and watch either a movie or put on a music channel. Whilst I was cooking this song came on and instantly I was dancing and cooking, it just has a great vibe to it. Check it out:
Tchami, is a house music producer from Paris, France. His stage name was given to him when he was travelling in Africa; a nickname so catchy that he kept hold of it. He is well known for his "Future House" music and his song "Promesses" which was originally released in 2013 through Fools Gold Records. but was then later released to a larger audience early 2015 by Ministry of Sound. Also the vocals on the track are from singer Kaleem Taylor.
What intrigues me about this music video, is the fact that there is a focus on a small group of individuals in Enid, Oklahoma USA who have all been struck by lightning. Enid, Oklahoma is apparently the highest possible place to get struck by lightning than any other town in the U.S.
Lightning never strikes the same place twice and as proof these individuals test their strength and bravery to prove that fact to be true. The individuals do everything to try and get struck by lightning again ie. standing in places where they are most at risk and holding/ attaching metal objects to themselves. I guess if theres something you are willing to risk that is worth fighting for where the adrenaline was so good the first time that chances were you got burned. There is always that higher chance that you are going to play with fire again. What's great about this song, is Tchami is trying to encourage everyone to be true to yourself and others in the moment. "If emptiness is in your promesses, Then there's no need to even promise me" there is no point in facing something, if you aren't willing to get struck.
Cheers Amy
